Pershing Center
The Pershing Center (originally known as Pershing Auditorium) is a 4,526-seat multi-purpose arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. Although still physically in place, it is no longer in use. History On February 12, 1900, Lincoln's first municipal auditorium, though owned by Lancaster County and operated by the local chapter of the American Legion, opened. The building was burnt to the ground in an accident on April 15, 1928. By 1931, the city of Lincoln was planning to build a new auditorium and name it after General John J. Pershing, based on votes from students that would ultimately form and attend Lincoln Northeast High School. In 1939, city of Lincoln voters approved a $750,000 bond to build a new auditorium. A second bond in 1950, at cost of $1.5 million, was approved, but an additional $75,000 bond was rejected in 1952. Plans for Pershing were approved in 1955 and the building opened two years later. Louise Pershing
Louise Pershing (May 24, 1904- October 14, 1986) was an American painter and sculptor, and a founder of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Career Pershing studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), and the University of Pittsburgh. While at the Carnegie Institute, she worked with Giovanni Romagnoli and Alexander Kostellow, among others. Exhibitions Pershing exhibited extensively, beginning in 1927 with the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. One of her paintings, "Seedlings," was included in the 1937 Carnegie International, and her work was also part of the 1949 and 1950 Internationals. She also had several solo exhibitions. A Persian, Persian roll or Pershing is a fried sweet roll or doughnut with a spiral shape similar to a cinnamon bun. It may be covered with a sugar glaze, iced or frosted, or sprinkled with sugar or cinnamon sugar. ''Pershing'' is the second full-length studio album from American indie pop band Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. It was released through Polyvinyl Records on April 8, 2008. Background and production The album's name refers to John J. Pershing Middle School in Springfield, Missouri, which Philip Dickey attended. The track "HEERS" references thHeers Buildingwhich is also located in Springfield, Missouri. The album's production is more refined than the lo-fi ''Broom'', but retains the doubled vocals, moving bass lines, and clean guitar lines played by electric and acoustic guitars from the former album. Andrzej Kolikowski
Andrzej Kolikowski (1954 – 5 December 1999), nicknamed ''Pershing'', was the leader of the so-called ''Pruszków mafia'' in Poland and arguably the best-known Polish gangster of the 1990s. He was assassinated by his enemies while on vacation in Zakopane. Kolikowski was born in Ożarów Mazowiecki. He was first arrested by the police at the age of 17. When he graduated from a car service school, he started working for a local cable factory. In 1980s he first went to West Germany, from where he started smuggling dollars, cars and other goods unavailable in communist-controlled Poland. There he also met his later accomplices: Jeremiasz Barański (''Baranina'') and Nikodem Skotarczak (''Nikoś''). He invested the money in an illegal casino opened in Warsaw in late 1980s. Pershing Road is a road located entirely in Weehawken, New Jersey that travels for on the Hudson Palisades between Boulevard East and Weehawken Port Imperial, and carries the designation Hudson County Route 682. At County Route 505 (Boulevard East), the road meets 48th Street (County Route 684), one of the very few two-way streets in the urban grid of North Hudson, which travels west to Bergenline Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard. It is named for World War I hero John J. Pershing. Earlier names have included Clifton Road, named for the estate on whose land it was located, and Hillside Road, which would speak to its location. The National World War I Memorial is a national memorial commemorating the service rendered by members of the United States Armed Forces in World War I. The 2015 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the World War I Centennial Commission to build the memorial in Pershing Park, located at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. The park, which has existed since 1981, also contains the '' John J. Pershing General of the Armies'' commemorative work. In January 2016, the design commission selected the submission "The Weight of Sacrifice", by a team consisting of Joseph Weishaar, Sabin Howard, Phoebe Lickwar, and GWWO Architects, as the winning design, which is expected to be completed by 2024.
