''Perplexions'' is an album by Melora Creager, frontwoman and founder of the band Rasputina, which was released on December 4, 2006, through her own record label, Filthy Bonnet Recording Co. Track listing Song Inspirations *"Lunar Girl Explorer", according to Creager, was "inspired by the satellite explorations of Saturn's moon, Titan", although she was likely referring to the Huygens probe, which touched down on Titan on January 14, 2005, as the Galileo spacecraft was never involved in such exploration. *"Warbots" is about the U.S. Government's real life attempts to make robot soldiers. The lyric "the lawyers tell me that there are no prohibitions against robots making life or death decisions", credited in the song to "Mr. Johnson", is indeed a direct quote from Gordon Johnson of the Pentagon's Joint Forces Command. *"Krakatowa" was described by Creager "a tale of Polynesian spite and revenge." Melora Creager
Melora Creager (born March 25, 1966) is an American cellist, singer-songwriter, performing artist and founder of the rock band Rasputina. Early life, beginnings and Rasputina Born in Kansas City, Missouri, and adopted by a graphic designer and physicist, Creager was raised in Emporia, Kansas. She started studying music at the age of 5, and at age 9 began playing the cello. As a child she was also a member of the Wichita Youth Symphony. Though she briefly quit playing in her teen years, after Creager moved to the east coast to attend Philadelphia College of Art and Parsons School of Design, she was convinced by friends to take it up again. In the late 1980s she played with the New York indie rock band Ultra Vivid Scene. In 1991, Creager founded alternative cello ensemble Rasputina by writing a manifesto and placing a want-ad in the Village Voice stating "electric cellists wanted". Rasputina (band)
Rasputina is an American rock band based in New York City, known for their unconventional music style, as well as their fascination with historical allegories and fashion, especially those pertaining to the Victorian era. The group is fronted by cellist/vocalist Melora Creager, who writes the music and lyrics and creates art for the band's albums, singles, and website. History In 1989, Creager wrote a manifesto, and placed an ad in The Village Voice seeking women to form an electric cello choir. Julia Kent, then an editor at the Village Voice, was the first respondent. The original group of nine was whittled to three. They named themselves "Rasputina", after one of Creager's songs. "American Girl" is a rock song written by Tom Petty and recorded by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for their self-titled debut album in 1976. Tom Petty
Thomas Earl Petty (October 20, 1950October 2, 2017) was an American musician who was the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, formed in 1976. He previously led the band Mudcrutch, was a member of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys, and had success as a solo artist. Petty had many hit records. Titan (moon)
Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and the second-largest natural satellite in the Solar System. It is the only moon known to have a dense atmosphere, and is the only known object in space other than Earth on which clear evidence of stable bodies of surface liquid has been found. The Pentagon
The Pentagon is the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense. It was constructed on an accelerated schedule during World War II. As a symbol of the U.S. military, the phrase ''The Pentagon'' is often used as a metonym for the Department of Defense and its leadership. United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) was a Unified Combatant Command of the United States Department of Defense. USJFCOM was a functional command that provided specific services to the military. The last commander was Army Gen. Ray Odierno. Jonathon S. TeBeest is an American drummer, born and raised in Montevideo, Minnesota best known for his work in the cello-based group Rasputina (band), Rasputina. He was a member of the band from 2002 to 2008 and previously been associated with the act 3 Minute Hero where he garnered the nickname "ATHENS-manservant". Jonathon now fronts his band, Sawbones (band), Sawbones. Former band member Melora Creager has quipped that "There is an eccentric, pansexual genius secretly living inside of Jonathon".
