The Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations ( ro, Reprezentant Permanent al României la Organizația Națiunilor Unite) is currently Ion Jinga since 4 August 2015. Romania joined the United Nations (UN) on 14 December 1955. The first person with the diplomatic post was Athanase Joja, who was already appointed with it in 1955. Ion Jinga
Ion Jinga (born 1 September 1961, Câmpulung) is a Romanian diplomat working in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1992. Between 9 April 2003 and 7 March 2008 he served as the Romanian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and between 7 March 2008 and 4 August 2015 he held the position of Ambassador of Romania to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. On 4 August 2015, he started his term as Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations in New York. He and his wife Daniela have one daughter, Daria. Romania (then the Romanian People's Republic) joined the United Nations (UN) on 14 December 1955 following the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 109. Romania had already attempted to join the UN on 1947, but its membership application was rejected after the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 29. Currently, the Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations since 4 August 2015 is Ion Jinga, who has also been president of several institutions of the UN. Jinga has highlighted Romania's role in the UN, declaring that Romania is "active, highly respected, remarkable in UN peacekeeping missions". Simona Miculescu
Simona-Mirela Miculescu (born 4 July 1959) is a senior Romanian diplomat, currently serving as Permanent Delegate of Romania to UNESCO, with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Prior to this she was Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, and before that, the Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations in New York. She also served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Romania, and is the first woman in Romania's diplomatic history to be granted the rank of Ambassador. Mihnea Ioan Motoc () is a Romanian diplomat who served as Minister of Defence of Romania between November 2015 and January 2017, in the Cioloș Cabinet . Mihai Botez (mathematician)
Mihai Horia Botez (18 November 194011 July 1995) was a Romanian mathematician and dissident, nicknamed "Romania's Sakharov" by the international press. A leading mathematician, he played a key role in founding the study of futurology in the Eastern European country, before becoming a critic of the communist regime's catastrophic economic policies. He survived four suspicious attacks, including a stabbing, a car ramming and a beating that left him hospitalized and which human rights groups blamed on the country's secret police. Botez was granted asylum in the United States in 1987, before returning to Romania in 1989 after the Romanian Revolution.
