Peris Sports Club ( ar, نادي بيرس الرياضي) was a sports club based in Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq. History In Premier League The club participated in the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in the 2003–04 season. The following season, the club was relegated to the Iraq Division One. The club was promoted back to the Premier League in 2007–08 and had its most successful season by reaching the Elite Stage. At the halfway point of the 2009–10 season, Peris withdrew from the league and the club was dissolved. A new club, Zeravani SC, was founded in 2011 from the remnants of Peris SC. Duhok, Iraq
Duhok ( ku, دهۆک, translit=Dihok; ar, دهوك, Dahūk; syr, ܒܝܬ ܢܘܗܕܪܐ, Beth Nohadra) is a city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It's the capital city of Duhok Governorate. History The city's origin dates back to the Stone Age, and it became part of the Assyrian Empire, then the Babylonian Empire before it fell into the hands of Achaemenid Empire after the Fall of Babylon, and subsequently fell into the hands of Alexander the Great and the Romans. It became an important center of Syriac Christianity where it was known as "ܒܝܬ ܢܘܗܕܪܐ" ''Beth Nohdry'', before fading out after the conquests of Mesopotamia by Tamerlane. According to Evliya Çelebi, the city was initially called ''Dohuk-e Dasinya,'' named after the militant Dasini tribe who were believers of Yazidism. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. 2003–04 Iraqi Premier League
The 2003–04 Iraqi Premier League kicked off on January 8, 2004. The name of the league was changed from ''Iraqi First Division'' to ''Iraqi Premier League''. Due to security issues and scheduling difficulties, the season was officially cancelled in June 2004 during the group stage. The top four teams from each group were meant to advance to the elite stage, which would be followed by semi-finals, a third place match and a final, with the champions and runners-up qualifying for the 2005 AFC Champions League and the third and fourth-placed teams qualifying for the 2004–05 Arab Champions League. The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. 2007–08 Iraqi Premier League
The 2007–08 Iraqi Premier League season started on 26 November 2007 and ended on 24 August 2008. The season saw Erbil crowned as champions for the second time in a row, beating Al-Zawraa 1–0 after extra time in the final. For security reasons, the league was divided into three groups: South, North and Central. The top six clubs from the Central Group and the top four clubs from the North and South Groups qualified for the Elite Stage. The Elite Stage consisted of three groups, of which the winners and one runner-up qualified for the Golden Stage, a knockout contest. The Golden Stage matches were held at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. The champions and runners-up qualified for the 2009 AFC Cup, while third-placed Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya qualified for the 2008–09 Arab Champions League. Zeravani ( ar, نادي زيرفاني, ku-2, یانه ی زێڕه ڤانی) is a sports club based in Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq. It was formed in 2011, entering competition in the Kurdish Premier League. Club history The predecessor club was known as Peris FC, which competed in the Iraqi Premier League, a FIFA sanctioned league, until the 2009–10 season. The club then ceased operation. In 2011, Zeravani SC was formed from the remnants of Peris FC, and began competing in the Kurdish Premier League. It used the same stadium and same colours as Peris FC.
