''The Feather Fairy'' ( sk, Perinbaba) is a 1985 adaptation of a Brothers Grimm's Mother Hulda short story directed by Slovak director Juraj Jakubisko. A fairy tale about an immortal woman who cares for snow and a boy who isn't afraid of death. Synopsis A fairy tale not only for children about Jacob, who through his courage, manages to trick death. The film plays with people's never-ending desire for happiness, love and victory over death. Mrs Winter, The Feather Fairy, rules the world and also, being so open-hearted, raises little Jacob, who almost died in an avalanche. Life in the fairytale is perfect: the little boy is immortal, he doesn't get older, and he has everything. Even though his life is perfect, he watches human life through a looking glass. Juraj Jakubisko
Juraj Jakubisko (born 30 April 1938) is a Slovak film director. He has directed fifteen feature films, between 1967 and 2008. He often takes the dual role of cinematographer, and is often also credited as a screenplay writer as he usually co-writes or writes the scripts of his movies. In 2000 he was named Best Slovak Director of the 20th century by film critics and journalists. His work is often described as magical realism. Career Before entering the film industry, Jakubisko taught still photography at a secondary school for applied arts in Bratislava, and worked for a television company in Košice. In 1960 he moved to Prague where he attended the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU), studying film direction under Václav Wasserman. He graduated in 1965 and began working with Alfréd Radok at the Laterna Magika theatre in Prague. Gijón International Film Festival
The Gijón International Film Festival ( ast, Festival Internacional de Cine de Xixón or ''FICXixón'') is an annual film festival held in Gijón, a city in northwest Spain. History The festival's origins date back to 1963. In the beginning it was an initiative of the City Council of Gijón in co-operation with Caja de Ahorros de Asturias (Cajastur). Both entities co-operate with the Festival, the first as organizer and the second as sponsor. The first year it was held it was called ''Certamen Internacional de Cine y TV Infantil'' (International Children's cinema and TV contest).
