''Perils from the Sea'' is a collaborative studio album by American singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy LaValle, released on April 30, 2013 on Caldo Verde Records. Background and recording On September 11, 2011, Sun Kil Moon's Mark Kozelek asked Jimmy LaValle, of The Album Leaf, to collaborate on a song, resulting in the album's opening track, "What Happened to My Brother". The two continued to work together over the next year, culminating in a finished album, ''Perils from the Sea''. "You Missed My Heart" previously appeared on Kozelek's 2013 live album ''Live at Phoenix Public House Melbourne''. Release ''Perils from the Sea'' was originally set to be released under Kozelek and LaValle's monikers, Sun Kil Moon and The Album Leaf, and was released under these monikers in Japan and Taiwan. Mark Kozelek
Mark Edward Kozelek (born January 24, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and occasional actor. He is known as the vocalist and primary recording artist of the indie folk act Sun Kil Moon and founding member of the indie rock band Red House Painters, with whom he recorded six studio albums from 1989 until 2001. Born and raised in Massillon, Ohio, Kozelek developed an interest in music as a child. Upon meeting drummer Anthony Koutsos in Atlanta, Georgia, the pair moved to San Francisco, California and formed Red House Painters alongside guitarist Gorden Mack and bass guitarist Jerry Vessel. Signing with record label 4AD, the band released four studio albums to acclaim. In 1996, Kozelek recorded the band's fifth studio album, '' Songs for a Blue Guitar'', mostly alone. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. ''Stranger in the Alps'' is the debut studio album by American musician Phoebe Bridgers, released by Dead Oceans on September 22, 2017. Background and recording ''Stranger in the Alps'' was produced by Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska. Bridgers recorded the album in between tours over 2016 at Berg's studio in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The album's title is a reference to the edited-for-TV version of the film ''The Big Lebowski'', which changed Walter Sobchak's (John Goodman) line "Do you see what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass?" to "Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?" Bridgers signed a recording contract with Dead Oceans in June 2017, and the album was scheduled for release on September 22. Sun Kil Moon
Sun Kil Moon is an American folk rock act from San Francisco, California, founded in 2002. Initially a continuation of the defunct indie rock band Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon is now the primary recording moniker of vocalist and guitarist Mark Kozelek. The project is named after the Korean super flyweight boxer Sung-Kil Moon. Following the delayed release of Red House Painters' final studio album, '' Old Ramon'' (2001), vocalist and guitarist Kozelek began recording new material under the name Sun Kil Moon with bandmates Anthony Koutsos (drums) and Jerry Vessel (bass), alongside Geoff Stanfield and Tim Mooney. The Album Leaf is an American musical project founded in San Diego, California, in 1998 by Jimmy LaValle. He is known for his use of electronics, synthesizer, and Rhodes piano. His performances often feature projected visual art.
