In Persian mythology, peris (singular: peri; from fa, پَری, translit=parī, , plural , ; borrowed in European languages through ota, پَری, translit=peri) are exquisite, winged spirits renowned for their beauty. Peris were later adopted by other cultures. They are described as mischievous beings that have been denied entry to paradise until they have completed penance for atonement. Under Islamic influence, Peris became benevolent spirits, in contrast to the mischievous jinn and evil ''Dev (mythology), divs'' (demons). Scholar indicates an Indo-Iranian origin for the character, who was later integrated into the Arab houri tale tradition. Etymology The Persian word comes from Middle Persian ''parīg'', itself from Old Persian ''*parikā-''. Peter Peri is a British artist known for his work in painting and drawing. He lives and works in London, where he was born. Peri studied at Chelsea College of Art, London, graduating from the MA programme in 2003. He made his debut in 2003 at Bloomberg New Contemporaries. He has also shown at ''Art Now'' at Tate Britain in April 2007, the Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland in September 2006 and his work was shown at Tate Britain's ''Classified'' and the Arts Council Collection's ''How to Improve the World: 60 Years of British Art'' at the Hayward Gallery, London. Peri's work has a personal connection to Modernism. His grandfather was Laszlo Péri (1899–1967), a Hungarian émigré to Britain who was involved in Constructivism before turning to architecture and later in his life to Realism. Peri Sandria (born 23 September 1969) is an Indonesian former football player and manager. He also played for Indonesia national football team in the 1996 Tiger Cup. Club careers Peri Sandria began his career in Galatama with the club KTB Bekasi, shortly before the first national professional competition, the Liga Indonesia. Peri Vaevae Pare (died 27 May 2020) was a Cook Islands politician and Cabinet Minister. He was stripped of his seat in Parliament after being convicted of corruption in 2005. Biography Pare was the brother of musician Noo Pare and would often host musicians visiting Rarotonga. He previously worked as a Chief Laboratory Officer at Rarotonga Hospital. He was elected to Parliament as a member of the Democratic Alliance Party in the 1999 Cook Islands general election. In August 2001, he was appointed to the Cabinet of Terepai Maoate as Attorney-General and Minister of Health, but was sacked in December. Franz "Peri" Neufeld ( he, פרי נויפלד; 1 July 1913 – 17 January 1982), also known as Kfir Neufeld ( he, כפורי נויפלד, links=no), was an Israeli footballer who played as a forward. At club level, he played for Tersana in Egypt, and Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hakoah Tel Aviv in Israel. He also represented the Mandatory Palestine national team in 1938.
