''Perfect Day'' is the sixth album by singer-songwriter and guitarist, Chris Whitley. It is his fifth studio album. It is a full-length release of cover versions of "love songs". The album was recorded as a trio and is subtitled "Featuring Billy Martin and Chris Wood". Martin and Wood are the rhythm section of Medeski Martin & Wood. It was produced by Craig Street. The album was recorded live to half-inch two-track recorder by Danny Kopelson at 33 Recording in Brooklyn, New York. This recording was also released in the Super Audio CD (SACD) format. Chris Whitley
Christopher Becker Whitley (August 31, 1960 – November 20, 2005) was an American blues/rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. During his 25-year career he released more than a dozen albums, had two songs in the top 50 of the Billboard mainstream rock charts and received two Independent Music Awards. Whitley's sound was drawn from the traditions of blues, jazz and rock and he recorded songs by artists from many genres. He died in 2005 of lung cancer at the age of 45. Early life Whitley was born in Houston, Texas and learned to play guitar when he was fifteen. His father was an art director and his mother was a sculptor. During his youth he lived in Dallas, Texas, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Mexico and Vermont. Spanish Harlem Incident
"Spanish Harlem Incident" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan which was released on his album, '' Another Side of Bob Dylan'', on August 8, 1964. The song has been described as "a gorgeous vignette" by critics and been praised for its multilayered, poetic dimensions. When Dylan himself has been questioned about the song's subject matter he has confessed that he has no idea. However, author Paul Williams describes the song as a portrait of a gypsy girl that Dylan has seen only fleetingly but who has completely captivated him. Williams goes on to say that within the context of the song, Dylan is falling in love with not only the gypsy girl but also with the whole idea of gypsies and of himself in love with one. The song takes its name from the Spanish Harlem neighborhood of New York City. The Crystal Ship
"The Crystal Ship" is a song by American rock band the Doors, from their 1967 debut album ''The Doors'', and the B-side of the number-one hit single "Light My Fire". It was composed as a love song to Jim Morrison's first serious girlfriend, Mary Werbelow, shortly after their relationship ended. The song is inspired by the poem ''The Crystal Cabinet'' by William Blake. It is one of many of Morrison's songs inspired by Blake’s poetry. The song borrows from elements from baroque music. The lyrics in the opening verse resembles a conventional love song, while the later verses are vague in intention and contain more challenging imagery. A music video was later compiled from footage of the band performing on ''American Bandstand'', coupled with film of Morrison and Pamela Courson at Kern River, near Bakersfield, California. Vera Hall
Adell Hall Ward, better known as Vera Hall (April 6, 1902 – January 29, 1964) was an American folk singer, born in Livingston, Alabama. Best known for her 1937 song "Trouble So Hard", she was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 2005. Biography Hall was born at Payneville, Sumter County, Alabama, near Livingston, and sang her entire life. Her mother Zully Hall, a former slave, and father Agnes Efron, taught her songs such as "I Got the Home", "In the Rock" and "When I'm Standing Wondering, Lord, Show Me the Way". Hall married Nash Riddle, a coal miner, in 1917 and gave birth to their daughter, Minnie Ada. Riddle was killed in 1920. In the late 1930s, Hall's singing gained national exposure. "Perfect Day" is a song written by American musician Lou Reed in 1972. It was originally featured on ''Transformer'', Reed's second post–Velvet Underground solo album, and as a double A-side with his major hit, " Walk on the Wild Side". Harold Adamson
Harold Campbell Adamson (December 10, 1906 – August 17, 1980) was an American lyricist during the 1930s and 1940s. Early life Adamson, the son of building contractor Harold Adamson and Marion "Minnie" Campbell Adamson, was born and raised in Greenville, New Jersey, United States. Adamson suffered from polio as a child which limited the use of his right hand. Initially, Adamson was interested in acting, but he began writing songs and poetry as a teenager. He went on to studying acting at the University of Kansas and Harvard. Career Ultimately he entered into a songwriting contract with MGM in 1933.
