Percy Ellsworth
Percy Daniel Ellsworth III (born October 19, 1974) is a former American football Safety (American football position), safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns. Ellsworth joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 1996 after playing college football at the University of Virginia. He was teammates with Tiki Barber at both Virginia and with the Giants. Ellsworth attended Southampton High School (Courtland, Virginia), Southampton High School in Courtland, Virginia, where he was a Super Prep All-American as a senior. He was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for week 16 of the 1998 NFL season. Courtland, Virginia
Courtland is an incorporated town in Southampton County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,295 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Southampton County. History Originally named "Jerusalem" by the first colonists to settle in the region, the town was given its present name in 1888. It served as Southampton County's only town through the 18th century. The town was formed in 1791 on the north shore of the Nottoway River, on a parcel of ten acres (40,000 m2) beside the courthouse, and has been the county seat since then. In 1831, the town became well known as the site of the trials and subsequent executions of Nat Turner and some of his cohort who had planned a major slave rebellion. The New York Giants, an American football team which currently plays in the National Football League's National Football Conference, has a history dating back more than 80 seasons. The Giants have won 4 Super Bowls and drafted, Daniel Jones, in 2019. The Giants were founded in 1925 by Tim Mara in the then five-year-old NFL. Mara owned the team until his death in 1959, when it was passed on to his sons, Wellington and Jack. During their history, the Giants have won eight NFL championships, four of which came in Super Bowls. In just its third season, the team finished with the best record in the league at 11–1–1 and was awarded the NFL title. The 1998 NFL season was the 79th regular season of the National Football League. The season culminated with Super Bowl XXXIII, with the Denver Broncos defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34–19 at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game.
