Pepkor is a South African-based investment and holding company with business interests in Africa, Australia and Eastern Europe. It manages a portfolio of retail chains focused on the value market selling predominantly clothing, footwear and textiles. Its main operating subsidiaries are Pep and Ackermans in South Africa and Best & Less in Australia, all based on a high volume/lower margin business model. Formally known as Pep (store), PEP stores the company changed its name to Pepkor Limited in 1982 and PEP stores became a subsidiary company. In 2011 private equity company Brait bought a 24,6% stake in Pepkor for R4,18bn, valuing the company at about R17bn. Pepkor aims to expand its presence in the rest of Africa by opening 50 stores in Nigeria. Pep is a multinational retail company based in Cape Town, South Africa. Founded in 1965, Pep operated in 11 countries in Southern Africa with the opening of an outlet in Lobito, Angola in November 2008. As of November 2009, the company reported over 1400 stores in operation, with total employment equalling 14,000 employees. It also owns and runs the largest clothing factory in southern Africa, where it manufactures much of its clothing. Pep's target market is the mass lower- to middle-income end of the market. Pep&Co is a British discount fashion retail chain, owned by the South African company Pepkor (a wholly owned subsidiary of Steinhoff International) and based in Watford, England. Pep&Co opened their first store in the Newlands Shopping Centre in Kettering, Northamptonshire in July 2015. Software connection was founded in 1989 by entrepreneurs Michael Glezerson (Australia) and Michael David Smith (Australia). The initial store was located in Sandton City, Johannesburg. Parow is a suburb of Cape Town in the Western Cape, South Africa and a Northern Suburb of the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality founded by Johann Heinrich Ferdinand Parow who arrived in the locality in 1865.
