''People on the Top'' ( ar, أهل القمة, translit.Ahl el qema) is a 1981 Egyptian drama film directed by Ali Badrakhan. The film is listed in the Top 100 Egyptian films. It was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 54th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Ali Badrakhan
Ali Badrakhan (born April 25, 1946) is an Egyptian film director and screenwriter, the son of the director Ahmed Badrakhan. He worked as assistant to Fatin Abdel Wahab in ''Land of Hypocrisy'' in 1968, and with Youssef Chahine in the films ''Selection'' in 1971 and '' The Sparrow'' in 1974; his first movie was ''The Love That Was'' (1973) by Soad Hosny. Badrakhan collaborated with Naguib Mahfouz, Salah Jahin, and Ahmed Zaki. Early life Badrakhan was born to Ahmed Badrakhan who is of Kurdish descent and Salwa Allam in Cairo circa 1946. Ezzat El Alaili
Ezzat El Alaili ( ar, عزت العلايلي) (15 September 1934 – 5 February 2021) was an Egyptian actor who starred in over 300 films, TV series, and theatre plays since the 1960s. He had his bachelor's degree from the Higher Institute of Theatre Studies in 1960. Awards He won a lifetime achievement award from the Dubai International Film Festival in 2015. Egypt has submitted films for consideration for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1958, when Youssef Chahine's ''Cairo Station'' became both the first African and the first Arab film to contend for the award. The Foreign Film award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The award was created for the 1956 Academy Awards, succeeding the non-competitive Honorary Academy Awards which were presented between 1947 and 1955 to the best foreign language films released in the United States. Egypt has submitted thirty-six films to the Foreign Oscar competition but has never yet achieved a coveted Oscar nomination. This is a list of submissions to the 54th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. Naguib Mahfouz Abdelaziz Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Basha ( arz, نجيب محفوظ عبد العزيز ابراهيم احمد الباشا, ; 11 December 1911 – 30 August 2006) was an Egyptian writer who won the 1988 Nobel Prize in Literature. Mahfouz is regarded as one of the first contemporary writers in the Arabic literature, along with Taha Hussein, to explore themes of existentialism. He is the only Egyptian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Top 100 Egyptian films aliases: CIFF 100 Egyptian films or Greatest 100 Egyptian films in 20th century or Top 100 films in the centenary of Egyptian cinema (Egyptian Arabic: قائمة أفضل مئة فيلم في مئوية السينما المصرية) is the result of a referendum in which many Egyptian critics participated in 1996 to choose the 100 best Egyptian films of the 20th century, as part of the activities of the Cairo International Film Festival in its 20th edition, on the occasion of the centenary of Egyptian cinema, which coincides with the first film screening in Egypt in 1896. The films were selected from 1927 (where ''Layla'' was shown, the first Egyptian feature-length film) until 1996, and were announced during the celebration that was held in 1996.
