People's Unity Assembly
The People's Unity Assembly (Catalan: ''Assemblea d'Unitat Popular'', AUP) was an independentist organisation and movement active between 1993 and 1996. The AUP was created by the Movement for Defence of the Land- IDP Faction (MDT-IDP), militants of La Crida, different local political organisations and independents. The AUP was close to the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC). The AUP had the support of the mayors of Arbúcies and Sant Pere de Ribes. History The AUP was very active during its existence. The organisation made campaigns against the Spanish Constitution and in favor of independence. In 1995 the AUP supported, and went along, with the MDT- IDP in the municipal elections of that year, but at the same time the organisations was very close to thesis of ERC. In January 1996 a number of members of the AUP joined ERC and the organisation was dissolved. The 1995 Spanish local elections were held on Sunday, 28 May 1995, to elect all 65,869 councillors in the 8,067 municipalities of Spain and all 1,034 seats in 38 provincial deputations. The elections were held simultaneously with regional elections in thirteen autonomous communities, as well as local elections in the three foral deputations of the Basque Country and the ten island councils in the Balearic and Canary Islands. Arbúcies
Arbúcies is a village in the province of Girona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of with a population of 6481 in 2014. History Arbúcies was populated by the Iberians and later by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, when feudalism was established, Montsoriu Castle and viscounts of Cabrera were very important. The Battle of Arbúcies took place on 14 January 1714 during the War of the Spanish Succession between the militia of the surrounding area, supporters of Archduke Charles of Austria, and the Walloon forces of the Duke of Anjou. The Popular Unity Candidacy ( ca, Candidatura d'Unitat Popular, , CUP) is a left-wing to far-left pro-Catalan independence political party active primarily in Catalonia, where it has political representation, but also in other autonomous communities in Spain it considers to be part of the Catalan Countries. The CUP traditionally has focused on municipal politics, and is made up of a series of autonomous candidatures that run in local elections. Unitat Municipal 9 (UM9, ''Municipal Unity 9'' in English language) is a local political party, with an independentist and anticapitalist socialist ideology, of Sant Pere de Ribes ( Garraf, Catalonia). UM9 is currently a member party of the Popular Unity Candidates. History The history of the party dates back to the 1979 municipal elections, the first held after the reform of the regime. In these first elections, created an "agrupacion de electores" (voters agrupation) that gathered together the BEAN, PSUC, PTC, CCOO and independents.
