People's Party (Serbia, 1990)
The People's Party ( sr, Народна странка / ''Narodna stranka'') was a political party in Serbia. Its president was Milan Paroški. History In the 1990 election it ran in coalition with the Serbian Renewal Movement and won one seat in one of the districts of Novi Sad. The elected MP was Milan Paroški. On 18 December 1995 it was announced that the People's Party was merging with the Democratic Party, taking a right-wing turn under Zoran Đinđić. This proved highly controversial, and Đinđić defended the decision saying that Paroški was remembered not for his monarchism but for his strong opposition credentials. On 18 August 1997 the party split with the political council of the Democratic Party, insisting against the electoral boycott of the 1997 election. In 2010 the party merged into the Serbian Monarchist Party "Serbian Unity". The People's Party ( sr, Народна партија / ''Narodna partija'') was a political party in Serbia. It was founded and led by the former Mayor of Novi Sad and former Serbian Radical Party member Maja Gojković. The party previously intended to take part in the next election together with the Democratic Party of Serbia and New Serbia. In 2010 the party left the populists and together with several other parties, formed the United Regions of Serbia, a broad coalition of regional parties. The People's Party participated in the 2012 parliamentary elections as part of the United Regions of Serbia coalition, and received 2 seats in the National Assembly. The party was expelled from the URS after it separately entered negotiations with the Democratic Party. The People's Party ( sr-cyrl, Народна странка, Narodna stranka, Narodna) is a centre-right political party in Serbia. History After his unsuccessful bid in an attempt to replace Ban Ki-Moon as UN Secretary-General in the end of 2016, Vuk Jeremić returned to Serbia, where he enjoyed relatively high approval ratings compared to other opposition politicians. He decided to run for president in 2017 presidential election, declining the option to support Saša Janković, who by then managed to gather a number of parties' support. Although many thought that opposition would have better chances against Vučić if united and considered Janković a better option for a single opposition presidential candidate, Jeremić announced his candidacy nevertheless.
