People's Hero Of Kazakhstan
The title of People's Hero of Kazakhstan ( kk, Халық қаһарманы, Halyq qaharmany) is the highest distinction conferred by the Republic of Kazakhstan, along with the Order of the Golden Eagle. Overview According to the Law on State Awards of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the honor would be bestowed on Kazakhs and foreigners who have performed extraordinary service to the Republic, or for exemplary military or civil exploits done in the name of its independence or freedom. Individuals who are granted the title also receive the Order of the Fatherland (''Otan''). People's Hero is the country's highest award, equaled only by the Order of the Golden Eagle. Those conferred with the title are awarded a gilded medal in the form of a seven-rayed star, with colorless Zirconium stones set between its rays. The Order of the Golden Eagle or "Altyn Qyran" Order ( kk, Алтын Қыран ордені, ''Altyn Qyran ordenı''; russian: Орден Золотого орла) is the highest order of Kazakhstan. The order is awarded by the President of Kazakhstan. Established in 1995, the order recognizes outstanding service to Kazakhstan. The Order of the Golden Eagle may be awarded to individuals who have previously been awarded orders by Kazakhstan or the Soviet Union. Shafik Chokin ( kk, Шапық Шөкіұлы Шөкин, ''Şapyq Şökıūly Şökin''; russian: Ша́фик Чо́кинович Чо́кин) (1 October 1912 – 4 July 2003) was a Kazakh scientist in the energy sector. He was a Doctor of Sciences, Professor, Founder of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Power Engineering, Deputy of The Supreme Soviet of the USSR, associate of the chairman of Soviet of the Union chamber, and President of Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences. Biography Shafiq Chokin was born on 1 October 1912 in Bayanaul District, in Pavlodar Province to a poor Muslim family. Khiuaz Qayrkyzy Dospanova (russian: Хиуаз Каировна Доспанова, kk, Хиуаз Қайырқызы Доспанова; 15 May 1922 – 20 May 2008) was a Kazakh pilot and navigator who served during World War II in the 588th Night Bomber Regiment, nicknamed the "Night Witches." In addition to being the first Kazakh woman officer in the Soviet Air Force, she was the only Kazakh woman to serve in the "Night Witches". Rakhimzhan Qoshqarbaev ( kk, Рақымжан Қошқарбаев, ''Raqymjan Qoşqarbaev''; Russian: Рахимжан Кошкарбаев; 19 October 1924 – 10 August 1988) was the first soldier to raise the Soviet Flag at the Reichstag building in Berlin, having placed the flag by a staircase in the opera hall after sneaking into the building. After nightfall Qoshqarbaev and several of his comrades raised the flag on the roof. However, because they had raised the flag in the night when it was too dark to take a photo, none of them were part of the iconic photo of Soviet soldiers raising the flag on 2 May. After the raising of the flag on 30 April it was shot down by German snipers shortly before the Wehrmacht retook control of the building. Qairat Nogaibaiuly Rysqulbekov ( kk, Қайрат Ноғайбайұлы Рысқұлбеков; 13 March 1966 – 21 May 1988) was a participant in the Jeltoqsan riot of 1986 that took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He later died in mysterious circumstances while held by the authorities. He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Kazakhstan after independence.
