Pentagram (band)
Pentagram is an American heavy metal band from Alexandria, Virginia, most famous as one of the pioneers of heavy metal, and the subgenre of doom metal in particular. As such, they are considered one of the "big four of doom metal", alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Trouble. The band was prolific in the underground scene of the 1970s, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release a full-length album until reforming in the early 1980s with an almost completely new line-up. Throughout the band's history the only constant member has been vocalist Bobby Liebling. The revolving line-up of Pentagram has featured many well-respected musicians in the local doom metal scene, with members spending time in other acts such as the Obsessed, Place of Skulls, Internal Void, Spirit Caravan, among many others. Place Of Skulls (band)
Place of Skulls is an American doom metal band from Knoxville, Tennessee. Biography Place of Skulls was formed in 2000 by ex-Pentagram guitarist Victor Griffin. Griffin left Pentagram in 1996 and during this time before starting the band, became a Christian. The name is a biblical reference to Golgotha. The band put out their debut album, '' Nailed'', via Southern Lord Records in 2002. Many of these songs deal with Griffin's new found faith in Christianity. Four songs from the ''Nailed'' session were explicitly Christian and for this reason did not appear on the album. These were released as the ''Love Through Blood'' EP in 2005. Scott "Wino" Weinrich joined the band for their second album, '' With Vision''. The album was released by Southern Lord Records in 2003. Circus (magazine)
''Circus'' was a monthly American magazine devoted to rock music. It was published from October 1966 to May 2006. The magazine had a full-time editorial staff that were prolific in rock journalism, such as Paul Nelson, Judy Wieder, David Fricke, and Kurt Loder. It rivaled ''Rolling Stone'' in sales and surpassed ''Creem''. In 1974, a sister publication was launched, titled ''Circus Raves'', and by 1977 that venture had been merged into ''Circus'' magazine, making ''Circus'' a biweekly publication. Gerald Rothberg originally published the magazine under the name ''Hullabaloo'' in 1966 (23 issues), before changing the name to ''Circus'' in 1969. ''Creem'' (often stylized in all caps) is a monthly American music magazine, based in Detroit, whose main print run lasted from 1969 to 1989. It was first published in March 1969 by Barry Kramer and founding editor Tony Reay. Influential critic Lester Bangs served as the magazine's editor from 1971 to 1976. Sir Lord Baltimore was an American heavy metal band from Brooklyn, New York City, formed in 1968 by lead vocalist and drummer John Garner, guitarist Louis Dambra, and bassist Gary Justin. Some have cited the 1971 review of their debut record, '' Kingdom Come'', in ''Creem'' magazine as containing the first documented use of the term "heavy metal" to refer to a style of music. Blue Cheer was an American rock band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was sporadically active until 2009. UFO are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They became a transitional group between early hard rock and heavy metal and the new wave of British heavy metal.
