Pennsylvania High School Hockey
Teams from 150 high schools competed as varsity ice hockey teams in Western and Eastern Pennsylvania. Unlike many other high school sport in Pennsylvania, hockey is not run under Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association umbrella. However, Pennsylvania's high school ice hockey is sanctioned by USA Hockey and varsity-level programs are marginally overseen by the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers organizations through the Penguins Cup and the Flyers Cup. However although it is considered a club it is still a part of the High School and is affiliated with the school. Format Varsity teams are divided into four divisions, AAA, AA, A, and B (Open). Western divisional champions earn a bid to the Penguins Cup playoff tournament. Eastern divisional teams earn a bid by invitation to the Flyers Cup playoff tournament. High School
A secondary school describes an institution that provides secondary education and also usually includes the building where this takes place. Some secondary schools provide both '' lower secondary education'' (ages 11 to 14) and ''upper secondary education'' (ages 14 to 18), i.e., both levels 2 and 3 of the ISCED scale, but these can also be provided in separate schools. Ryan Malone
Ryan Gregory Malone (born December 1, 1979) nicknamed "Bugsy", is an American former professional ice hockey forward. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers. In 2003, he became the first Pittsburgh-born and trained player to suit up for the Penguins in an NHL game. Tony Voce
Tony Voce (born October 30, 1980) is an American former professional ice hockey player. Voce was the first Philadelphia native to play for the Philadelphia Flyers organization. Playing career Voce played college hockey at Boston College. In his four years there, he recorded 90 goals and 77 assists to go along with 207 penalty minutes. As a senior, he finished second in the nation in goals in the NCAA, and for the second time (also as a sophomore) was awarded the Norman F. Bailey Award as team MVP. In addition, he was named to the All-Hockey East First Team and was an AHCA First Team All-American. After being signed as an undrafted free agent by his hometown team, the Philadelphia Flyers, he was sent to their minor league affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. Grant Lewis
Grant Lewis (born January 20, 1985) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. Early life Lewis, who is Jewish, was born in Pittsburgh. He attended Upper St. Clair High School. Upon the completion of his professional playing career in 2016, Lewis set his sights on pursuing a professional career in dentistry. He is currently on track to receive a DDS degree. Playing career Lewis was drafted 40th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. He played collegiate hockey with Dartmouth College of the ECAC. During his freshman season he had 25 points, including 3 goals, in 34 games. His 25 points was the second-highest for a freshman in the history of the college. William Thomas (born June 20, 1983) is an American professional ice hockey player. He currently plays right wing for Anyang Halla, member of the Asia League Ice Hockey (AL). Playing career He was undrafted out of suburban Pittsburgh Fox Chapel Area High School. Thomas played for the Cleveland Jr. Barons of the NAHL and Tri-City Storm of the USHL. He also played for the University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks for two years, leading them to their first NCAA Division I hockey tournament appearance. After playing in the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament, Thomas signed his first professional contract on March 26, 2006, with the Phoenix Coyotes a few days after the Mavericks were eliminated from the tournament in the first round. Christian Hanson (ice Hockey)
Christian David Hanson (born March 10, 1986) is a former American professional ice hockey player. He last played in the St. Louis Blues organization in the NHL. Hanson played college hockey for the University of Notre Dame. He was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft, but signed a contract as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs after his senior season. John Zeiler
John Zeiler (born November 21, 1982) is an American former professional ice hockey right winger. He last played for the EC Kassel Huskies of the DEL2. Zeiler was drafted 132nd overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Zeiler graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. His junior training was with Sioux City of the USHL and with the Pittsburgh Hornets AAA program. Prior to the NHL, he played college hockey at St. Lawrence. Matthew Richard Bartkowski (born June 4, 1988) is an Americans, American professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing for the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL). Brandon Saad
Brandon Saad (born October 27, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL). Saad was raised in Pittsburgh and attended Pine-Richland High School. He was drafted in the second round, 43rd overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015. The Blackhawks traded Saad to the Columbus Blue Jackets before the 2015–16 NHL season. Nathaniel Lawrence Guenin (born December 10, 1982) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Guenin played high school hockey in the Pittsburgh suburb of Hopewell. He was drafted 127th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. After completing a four-year collegiate career with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Guenin was signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia Flyers on August 16, 2006.
