Pennsylvania Route 973 (PA 973) is a highway which runs for , generally east–west in Lycoming County in north central Pennsylvania in the United States. Its western terminus is on the east bank of Pine Creek at PA 44 in the unincorporated village of Tomb (or Tombs Run) in Watson Township, and its eastern terminus is at the hamlet of Loyalsockville in Upper Fairfield Township at PA 87. Route description Starting at its western end at PA 44 in Tomb, PA 973 runs east along Tombs Run, then northeast along the North Fork of Tombs Run. It then heads east into Mifflin Township, following Mud Run and the First Fork of Larrys Creek before crossing Larrys Creek and PA 287, and turning north into the borough of Salladasburg. It follows Larrys Creek northeast into Anthony Township, where it leaves Larrys Creek and follows Stoney Gap Run into Lycoming Township. Watson Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania
Watson Township is a township in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 534 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Williamsport Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Watson Township was formed in January 1848 from parts of Porter and Cummings townships. It is named for Oliver Watson, the president of a bank in nearby Williamsport at the time. Watson Township is and always has been a largely unpopulated area. It is mountainous and covered with a thriving second-growth forest. During the late 1800s much of the land was stripped of its old-growth forests. At the time central Pennsylvania and the city of Williamsport were at the center of the lumber industry in the United States. Trees were cut down and floated down Pine Creek, which flows through Watson Township. There were several sawmills along Pine Creek in the township. The ''Williamsport Sun-Gazette'' is a morning newspaper published seven days a week in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in Lycoming County. Its earliest antecedents date to 1801. As of January 1, 2016, the daily circulation of the paper was listed as 19,000 daily Monday–Saturday, with a Sunday circulation of 24,000. History The ''Williamsport Sun-Gazette'' was founded in 1801 as the ''Lycoming Gazette''. At the time of the newspaper's conception, there were 131 residents in the town of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The newspaper was started in a building in what is now the vicinity of Penn Street and Washington Boulevard. The ''Gazette'' name has been on the nameplate and masthead of a newspaper in Williamsport continuously since that time. Tropical Storm Lee (2011)
Tropical Storm Lee was the thirteenth named storm and fifteenth system overall of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, developing from a broad tropical disturbance over the gulf on September 1. It was designated as Tropical Storm Lee the next day. Prior to 2020, when Marco formed on August 22, Lee was tied with 2005's Maria as the earliest-forming 13th Atlantic tropical storm. The system was rather large, and due to drifting, Lee brought flash flooding to the Gulf Coast. Flooding associated with the rains caused significant property damage in the areas, with drowning deaths reported in both Mississippi and Georgia. Elsewhere, the storm helped spread wildfires that destroyed homes and killed two people in Texas, and a traffic accident in Alabama resulted in one death.
