Pennant Hills Golf Club
The Pennant Hills Golf Club is a golf club in Beecroft, New South Wales, Australia, a suburb of Sydney. Founded in 1923, it is a par 71 eighteen-hole championship course. It has hosted many amateur events including the NSW Men's and NSW Ladies Amateur Championships. In 1925, the original clubhouse was designed by Thomas Pollard Sampson, a playing member of the club, and he extended the building in 1929 and again in 1939. History The club was incorporated on 26 February 1923 when it completed the purchase of an area of land of 97 acres, 1 rood and 24 ½ perches, paying £4750 to Mr J.W Meader for the land previously secured by Robert Vicars. An initial course layout in 1923 included 9 holes on the western end which had previously been cleared for farming and cultivation. Beecroft, New South Wales
Beecroft is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 22 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government areas of Hornsby Shire and City of Parramatta. Beecroft resides the upper section of Lane Cove National Park, and is one of the oldest established suburbs in New South Wales. The suburb is notably affluent, and is characterised by leafy streets and large federation homes on big blocks of land. History Beecroft was orchard country before its suburban development. The railway arrived in 1886 and Sir Henry Copeland, Minister of Lands, conducted a survey of the area to determine its suitability as a residential area. He named the suburb after the maiden name of his two wives, Hannah and Mary Beecroft, (two sisters he married in succession). Kel Nagle
Kelvin David George Nagle AM (21 December 1920 – 29 January 2015) was an Australian professional golfer best known for winning The Open Championship in 1960. He won at least one tournament each year from 1949 to 1975. Biography Nagle was born in North Sydney. Because of five-and-a-half years of World War II military service (1939–45), Nagle got a late start on pro golf, as he played no golf between ages 19 and 24, and turned pro at age 25 (1946). He made up for lost time by winning at least one tournament each year from 1949 to 1975. During his early career, he had a long swing and was regarded as the longest hitter on the Australasia tour, as evidenced by the Australian press dubbing him as "the Pymble Crusher". By age 39 (in 1960, when he won The Open Championship), Nagle had shortened his swing and become a straight hitter with what Gary Player described as "the best short game out here".
