The Penn Quakers are the athletic teams of the University of Pennsylvania. The school sponsors 33 varsity sports. The school has won three NCAA national championships in men's fencing and one in women's fencing. The Ivy League is an American collegiate athletic conference comprising eight private research universities in the Northeastern United States. The term ''Ivy League'' is typically used beyond the sports context to refer to the eight schools as a group of elite colleges with connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism. Mike Constantino
Michael Constantino (born February 5, 1969) is a former U.S. soccer forward. He earned one cap with the U.S. national team and was a member of the U.S. team at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship. Youth Constantino graduated from the Friends Academy where he was a 1986 Parade Magazine High School All American soccer player. He attended the University of Pennsylvania where he played on the men’s soccer team in 1986 and then from 1988 to 1990. He took the 1987 season off to play with the United States U-20 men's national soccer team. He returned to Penn in 1988 and completed his four seasons in 1990. Santiago Formoso
Santiago Formoso (born July 4, 1953) is an American soccer defender who spent five seasons in the North American Soccer League. He also earned seven caps with the U.S. national team in 1976 and 1977. Club career Santiago Formoso was born in Vigo, Spain, 1953. He emigrated to the United States in 1969, following his father, a merchant seaman. He established in Newark, New Jersey, and attended Kearny High School, graduating in 1973. He also played with Newark Beira-Mar. His father became a cook in Long Island, while his mother worked in a clothing factory. His father died of cancer in 1974. After high school, Formoso attended the University of Pennsylvania where he played on the men’s soccer team. While at university, he became a U.S. citizen. James Gentle
James Cuthbert Gentle (July 21, 1904 – May 22, 1986) was an American soccer striker, field hockey player, soldier, and golfer. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Youth Born outside Boston in Brookline, Massachusetts, Gentle grew up in his hometown, attended Brookline High School. In 1922, he entered the University of Pennsylvania where he played football as a freshman. He switched to soccer and track for his next three years at Penn, earning first team All American honors for soccer in 1924 and 1925. Gentle graduated from the university's Wharton School with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1926. Seth Roland (born 1957) is the head coach of the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team, a position he has held since 1997. As a player, he won a silver medal with Team USA at the 1981 Maccabiah Games in Israel. As a coach of Team USA, he won a bronze medal at the 1993 Maccabiah Games. His FDU team has won eight NEC championships and made it to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.
