Penn-York Valley
The Penn-York Valley (referred to locally as The Valley) is a group of communities that straddles the New York State, New York and Pennsylvania border. It includes the villages and boroughs of: * Waverly, Tioga County, New York, Waverly, New York * Sayre, Pennsylvania * Athens, Pennsylvania * South Waverly, Pennsylvania These four central communities have a population of 14,822 as of the United States Census, 2000, 2000 Census, and a population of 14,425 as of the 2010 Census. The entire Greater Valley has a population near 35,000. Due to geographic boundaries, the Penn-York Valley is broken up into two United States Census, Census regions: the Binghamton metropolitan area and the Bradford County, Pennsylvania, Sayre micropolitan area. Chemung, New York
Chemung is a town in Chemung County, New York, United States. The population was 2,368 at the 2020 census. The town name is derived from the Chemung River, which means "Big Horn" in the native language. The town is in the southeast corner of the county and is southeast of Elmira. It is part of the Elmira Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The region was destroyed by the Sullivan Expedition on August 13, 1779, which fought at the Battle of Newtown, just west of the current town of Chemung. The first clear record of settlement dates to about 1786. The town of Chemung was established in 1788 as the original town in the region. Chemung lost territory when Tioga County was formed in 1791. The town of Newtown (now the town of Elmira) was taken from Chemung in 1792. Chemung was incorporated in 1788 into Montgomery County, at the time of that town's formation. Towanda, Pennsylvania
Towanda is a borough and the county seat of Bradford County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is located northwest of Wilkes-Barre, on the Susquehanna River. The name means "burial ground" in the Algonquian language. As of the 2020 census, the population of Towanda was 2,833. History Towanda was settled in 1784 and became the county seat in 1812. It was variously known for some years as Meansville, Overton, Williamson, Monmouth and Towanda, and incorporated in 1828. Towanda was once known primarily for its industrial interests, which included flour, planing and silk mills, a foundry and machine shop, dye works, and manufacturers of talking machines, cut glass, toys and furniture. Sheshequin Township is a township in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 1,348 at the 2010 census. ''Sheshequin'' is a Native American name purported to mean "place of the rattle". Geography Sheshequin Township is located north of the center of Bradford County, on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. It is bordered by Athens and Litchfield townships to the north, Rome Township to the east, Wysox Township to the southeast, North Towanda Township to the south and Ulster Township to the west. Ulster Township is a township in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 1,337 at the 2010 census. It was named after the province of Ulster in Ireland. Geography Ulster Township is located in north-central Bradford County, on the west bank of the Susquehanna River.
