Peninsula Panthers
The Peninsula Panthers are a junior "B" ice hockey team based in North Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the South Division of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL). The Panthers play their home games at Panorama Recreation Centre. Coreen Zubersky is the team's president, Pete Zubersky is the general manager and Chris Driebergen is the head coach. History The Panthers joined the league in the early 1980s as an expansion team, named as the Peninsula Eagles. In its VIJHL history, the team has won the Cyclone Taylor Cup once, in 2011. The Panthers have won the Brent Patterson Memorial Trophy four times in 1989, 2010, 2011 and 2022. They won the Andy Hebenton Trophy five times, as the team with the league's best regular season record in 1988, 1989, 2004, 2008 and 2009. North Saanich, British Columbia
The District of North Saanich is located on the Saanich Peninsula of British Columbia, approximately north of Victoria on southern Vancouver Island. It is one of the 13 Greater Victoria municipalities. The District is surrounded on three sides by of ocean shoreline, and consists of rural/residential areas, a large agricultural base and is home to the Victoria International Airport and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. History In July 1905, North Saanich, then including the townsite of Sidney, was incorporated with the original Municipal Hall located in Sidney. Lacking population and a firm tax base, the municipality was dissolved in 1911. In 1940, the site of the present Victoria International Airport was selected as a military forces base and the area boomed with the influx of 10,000 military personnel, leading to incorporation for the Village of Sidney in 1952. Revelstoke Grizzlies
The Revelstoke Grizzlies are a Junior "B" Ice Hockey team based in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Doug Birks Division of the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). They play their home games at Revelstoke Forum. History The Grizzlies were founded in 1993. They won the KIJHL Championship over the Osoyoos Storm in 1998. In the 2009-10 season, they not only won their Division, and KIJHL championship over the Leafs 4-1, but they went to the Cyclone Taylor Cup and won Gold, then they went to the Keystone Cup and won Gold. On June 11, 2014, it was announced that the Grizzlies ownership had been transferred to a new group headed by Ryan Parent. Greg Scott (ice Hockey)
Greg Scott (born June 3, 1988) is a Canadian ice hockey forward currently playing for Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). His older brother, Bobby Scott, was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2004 First Year Player Draft in the 20th Round. Playing career Undrafted, Scott played major junior hockey with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. On July 4, 2008, Scott was signed to a three-year entry level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Throughout his tenure within the Maple Leafs, Scott was assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. In 270 games in the American Hockey League, Scott was never called up for an NHL game, by the parent club, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ryan O'Byrne
Ryan David O'Byrne (born July 19, 1984) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 2007 - 2013 with the Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche and the Toronto Maple Leafs. During this time, O'Byrne founded the Ryan O'Byrne Charity Camp, a non-profit hockey camp for youth. At the conclusion of the 2013 season, O'Byrne went on to play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Swiss National League (ice hockey), National League (NL), and Swedish Hockey League, before retiring from a ten-year professional hockey career in 2016. After returning to Cornell University to complete his undergraduate degree, O'Byrne earned his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Jamie Benn
Jamie Randolph Benn (born July 18, 1989) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger and captain of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). In the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Benn was drafted by the Dallas Stars 129th overall. He played his junior hockey career with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He represented Canada at the 2009 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where he helped capture a gold medal. With Team Canada, he won a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The Thunder Bay Northern Hawks are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They play in the Lakehead Junior Hockey League, formerly the Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League. The Sylvan Lake Wranglers are a junior "B" ice hockey team based in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada. They are members of the North Division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League (HJHL). They play their home games at Nexsource Center. Prior to the 2007–08 season the team was known as the Lacombe Wranglers before re-locating to Blackfalds. Sherwood Park Crusaders
The Sherwood Park Crusaders are a junior A ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). They play in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, with home games at Sherwood Park Arena Sports Centre. History The Edmonton Crusaders joined the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in 1976 playing out of the Jasper Place Arena. The AJHL franchise was revived from a dormant entry controlled by Jim McCaddie. The Edmonton Crusaders played two seasons in the AJHL. In 1978, a group of Sherwood Park businessmen, headed by John Fisher, Frank Chase, and Al Bishop, moved the franchise to Sherwood Park. John Fisher, a Sherwood Park resident and former Alberta Oilers' player, became the first coach of the Crusaders. During a game on February 21, 1980, twenty-year-old captain Trevor Elton was hit cleanly along the boards by a player on the St. Albert Saints in St. Albert, Alberta. Pilot Butte Storm
The Pilot Butte storm of 1995 was a powerful storm and tornado that devastated Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan on August 26, 1995. At about 4:40 p.m., a major wind and hailstorm started in the town. The storm later spawned a tornado, which touched down at the west edge of the town limits, demolishing a farmyard and cement plant. Occurrence The tornado hit Pilot Butte at approximately 4:40 p.m. on August 26, 1995. A ball tournament was being held at the same time as the storm hit. The hailstorm came in first, which produced golf ball sized hail. Later, a tornado formed on the west edge of the town limits. The south and west ends of the town were effected heavily, however, every property in the town had some damage done to it.
