Penafiel ( or () is a municipality and former bishopric (now a Latin Catholic titular see) in the northern Portuguese district of Porto. Capital of the Tâmega Subregion, the population was 72,265 in 2011, in an area of . History The region was occupied since pre-history, as evidenced by the proliferation of megalithic monuments, stone settlements and castros. This includes the Menhir of Luzim, a tall stone dating to an occupation of 3–4000 years B.C. Similarly, in the civil parish of Luzim, are the rock engravings that have existed for 3000 years. Douro Railway Line
Linha do Douro is a railway in northern Portugal. For much of its route the line runs close to the Douro River, offering very scenic views of the river and valley. Trains on the line are operated by Comboios de Portugal (CP). Construction Route From west to east, the line runs from the junction at Ermesinde to Pocinho. The line formerly continued east for a further 28 kilometres to the Spanish border. Until 1984, the track connected to a Spanish line, thus allowing through trains to/from Salamanca. Passenger trains normally run from São Bento station in Porto to Pocinho, with some not running as far as the eastern terminus. The line is built to the Iberian gauge of . AJP Motos
AJP Motos is a Portuguese manufacturer of enduro and off-road motorcycles producing single-cylinder. AJP Motos was founded in 1987 by brothers António Pinto and Jorge Pinto' in Penafiel, northern Portugal. Beginning as a workshop preparing off-road motorcycles, the company later diversified into manufacturing complete bikes. History In 1981, at age 22, Antonio Pinto opened a motorcycle repair and modifications workshop. In 1987, AJP was founded and produced its first model, the "Ariana" 125cc, with a 2 stroke Casal engine. The brand name "AJP" is derived from the initials of seven-times Portuguese Enduro Champion António J Pinto. This motorcycle had a limited production run of only 25 units, but it incorporated some technical solutions that were used and developed in subsequent models.
