Batavia is a town in Genesee County, New York, United States. The population was 6,809 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Roman name for part of the Netherlands. Alexander is a town in Genesee County, New York, United States. The population was 2,534 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Alexander Rea, an early settler, and is on the southern border of the county. It includes a village also named Alexander. History Alexander Rea purchased in the town in 1802 for $56.20 and founded the village of Alexander. The next year he laid out a road, now Walnut Street and Route 98, north of the settlement. Oakfield is a town in Genesee County, New York, United States. The population was 3,250 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from a number of trees, including the oak. The town is on the northern border of Genesee County. Within the town is a village also named Oakfield. History Prehistoric earthworks indicate a previous occupation by Native Americans. The local tribe during historic time were the Seneca people. The manner in which they cut down the trees on their land gave rise to the phrase "Oak Orchard," which has current usage in the area. The area was once known as "Plain Brook", after it was first settled around 1801. The town was formed in 1842 from the town of Elba and named "Oakfield". Alabama is a town in Genesee County, New York, United States. The town is in the northwestern part of the county. New York State Routes 63 and 77 intersect in the town. Newstead is the northeasternmost town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 8,594 at the 2010 census. The name is reportedly derived from Newstead Abbey in England. Newstead is northeast of Buffalo, and its principal community is the village of Akron. History The town was first settled ''circa'' 1801. The town of Newstead was established in 1823 as the "Town of Erie" from the eastern part of the town of Clarence. Alden is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 10,865 at the 2010 census. The town is derived from a family name known to early settlers. Alden is in the northeast part of Erie County, east of Buffalo. It contains a village also called Alden. History The town of Alden, which had previously been part of Clarence, was established on March 27, 1823 and codified in the Laws of the State of New York, Sess.46, ch. 89 (1823). Tonawanda Creek is a small tributary of the Niagara River in Western New York, United States. New York State Route 77
New York State Route 77 (NY 77) is a north–south state highway in the western part of New York in the United States. The highway runs for across mostly rural areas from an intersection with NY 78 and NY 98 in the Wyoming County town of Java to a junction with NY 31 near the city of Lockport in Niagara County. It connects to several of the region's major east–west roads, including U.S. Route 20 (US 20) and the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90 or I-90).
