Peirene Press
Peirene Press is an independent publishing house based in London. Established by novelist and publisher Meike Ziervogel, Peirene is primarily focused on bringing out high-quality English translations of contemporary European short novels. Peirene is also known for its regular literary salons, and for its pop-up bookstalls outside supermarkets and at farmers markets. Peirene Press donates 50p from the sale of each book to Counterpoint Arts, a charity that promotes the creative arts by and about refugees and migrants in the UK. Asko Sahlberg
Asko Tapio Sahlberg (born 30 September 1964) is a Finnish novelist. Since the publication of his debut novel in 2000, he has written several more novels, including ''The Brothers'' (2010), an English translation of which has been released by Peirene Press. Kamal Ben Hameda
Kamal Ben Hameda (born 1954) is a Libyan jazz musician and writer. Born in Tripoli, Libya, Tripoli, he moved in his early twenties to France. He now lives in the Netherlands. Kamal has published several collections of poetry, and a novel titled ''La Compagnie des Tripolitaines'' (2012). Hanne Ørstavik
Hanne Ørstavik (born 28 November 1969) is a Norwegian writer. She was born in Tana in Finnmark province in the far north of Norway, and moved to Oslo at the age of 16. With the publication of the novel ''Hakk'' (''Cut'') in 1994, Ørstavik embarked her writing career. Her literary breakthrough came three years later with the publication of ''Kjærlighet'' (''Love''), which in 2006 was voted the 6th best Norwegian book of the last 25 years in a poll published by ''Dagbladet''. Since then she has written several novels and received a number of literary prizes. In 2002, she was awarded the Dobloug Prize for her literary works, and in 2004, the Brage Prize for the novel ''Presten''. Ørstavik’s books have been translated into 15 languages. Hamid Ismailov
Hamid Ismailov (russian: Хамид Исмайлов) ( uz, Hamid Ismoilov / Ҳамид Исмоилов or Абдулҳамид Исмоил) born May 5, 1954 in Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan, is an Uzbek journalist and writer who was forced to flee Uzbekistan in 1992 and came to the United Kingdom, where he took a job with the BBC World Service. He left the BBC on 30 April 2019 after 25 years of service. His works are banned in Uzbekistan. Hanna Krall
Hanna Krall (born 1935), is a Polish writer with a degree in journalism from the University of Warsaw, specializing among other subjects in the history of the Holocaust in occupied Poland. Personal life Krall is of Jewish origin, the daughter of Salomon Krall and Felicia Jadwiga ''née'' Reichold. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, but her date of birth is contested between 20 May 1935 and 20 May 1937. She was four years old, living in Lublin, when the World War II began with the Nazi German invasion of Poland. Krall lost most of her close relatives in the Holocaust, including her mother and father, who were murdered in Majdanek. She survived deportations to death camps only because she was hidden from the Germans by the Polish rescuers.
