Pegaso
Pegaso (, "Pegasus") was a Spanish manufacturer of trucks, buses, tractors, armored vehicles, and, for a while, to train apprentices, and have a good brand image, some sports cars. The parent company, Enasa, was created in 1946 and based in the old Hispano-Suiza factory, under the direction of the renowned automotive engineer Wifredo Ricart. In 1990, Iveco took over Enasa, and the Pegaso name became a secondary brand of Iveco. Enasa, a state-owned company, had its main business interest in the truck and bus market. Pegaso became one of the leading European industrial vehicle makers, with significant exports to both Europe and Latin America; the Benelux, Venezuela, and Cuba were its major foreign markets, and a substantial contract to supply tactical trucks to the Egyptian Army was signed in the late 1970s. Pegaso Z-102
The Pegaso Z-102 is a Spanish sports car produced by Pegaso in Spain in both coupé and cabriolet form from 1951 until 1958. The Z-102 was the fastest production car in the world at the time of production, having reached a top speed of . Background Pegaso was an established company noted for its trucks and motor coaches, but also produced sports cars for seven years. Pegaso's chief technical manager was Wifredo Ricart who formerly worked as chief engineer for Alfa Romeo, and while there designed the Alfa Romeo Tipo 512. The Z-102 started life as a pair of prototypes in 1951 with coupe and drophead body styles. Both prototypes had steel bodies which were determined to be too heavy and Pegaso made the decision to switch to alloy bodies to save weight. Wifredo Ricart
Wifredo Pelayo Ricart Medina (15 May 1897 – 19 August 1974) was a Spanish engineer, designer and executive manager in the automotive industry, who spent his professional career in Spain and Italy. The Barcelona "Happy Twenties" Born in Barcelona, Ricart graduated in 1918 as an industrial engineer. His first job was in a Hispano-Suiza dealer, but he soon moved to a new company, Motores Ricart-Perez, that successfully produced industrial engines. At that time, in the wake of Hispano-Suiza's automotive success, Barcelona swarmed with automotive initiatives. In this technically exciting environment, Ricart became increasingly interested in automobile engineering, and in 1922 designed his first car. It featured a 4-cylinder, 16-valve 1.5-liter engine which was advanced for its time. Pegaso Z-207
The Pegaso Z-207 was a truck model produced in Spain by Enasa from 1955 to 1959. It featured a V6 engine and a distinctive cab design. It was nicknamed '' Barajas'', for the location, close to Madrid, where a new Pegaso plant was built to produce the Z-207. The Z-207 was advanced for its time; its 7.5 L V6 engine had an aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, balance shaft, and a direct fuel injection system. The engine had two interchangeable cylinder heads, one for each group of three cylinders. It produced initially 110 and later 120 horsepower, enough for the vehicle to reach a top speed of 90 km/h with its maximum weight of 11,320 kg. The engine was mated to a three-speed gearbox divided by a splitter-type system into three low and three high, combined with a two-speed rear axle producing a total of twelve speeds. Pegasus ( grc-gre, Πήγασος, Pḗgasos; la, Pegasus, Pegasos) is one of the best known creatures in Greek mythology. He is a winged divine stallion usually depicted as pure white in color. Enasa
ENASA (Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones S.A.) was a Spanish motor vehicle manufacturing company that was incorporated in 1946 after having bought the automotive assets of the Spanish Hispano-Suiza and the Italian Fiat in Spain. It produced trucks, buses and military armored vehicles under the Pegaso and, for a short while, Sava brands. ENASA belonged to INI, a Spanish state-owned industrial holding company. From 1983, ENASA also owned Seddon Atkinson, which it received from International Harvester as compensation for a planned engine plant which had failed to materialize. International Harvester pulled out as the market for truck engines was contracting at the time, while there were also problems with Spain's admittance to the European Economic Community (EEC). Saoutchik
Founded by cabinet maker Jacques Saoutchik (born Iakov Savtchuk in Russian Empire in 1880), Saoutchik was a French coachbuilding company founded in 1906. In the 1930s, the company became well known for their often extravagant automobile designs for high end luxury car manufacturers. After Jacques died in 1955, the company passed into the hands of his son Pierre. With most of the well known French luxury car manufacturers going out of business and independent automotive coachbuilding as an industry in decline, the market for Saoutchik designs evaporated and the company ceased trading in 1955.
