Peepli Live
''Peepli Live'' is a 2010 Indian satirical black comedy film that explores the topic of farmer suicides and the subsequent media and political response. It is written and directed by Anusha Rizvi in her directorial debut, and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The film stars Naya Theatre company member Omkar Das Manikpuri as well as Naseeruddin Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa and Malaika Shenoy along with a number of newcomers. ''Peepli Live'', distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, was released on 13 August 2010. ''Peepli Live'' was India's official entry for the 83rd Academy Awards Best Foreign Film category although it was not nominated. Anusha Rizvi
Anusha Rizvi (born 13 March 1978) is an Indian film director and screenwriter. Formerly a journalist, Anusha's directorial debut, ''Peepli Live'', premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2010 in the World Competition Section. It was the first Indian film to be accepted in the 25 years of the festival’s existence. The film also won the Best First Film Award at the Durban film festival and the Gollapudi Srinivas Award. The film was later nominated as India's official entry to the 83rd Academy awards. She also directed a National Geographic documentary ''Hijack IC-814'' and two BBC documentaries ''Amul'' and ''Khadi''. Anusha is currently developing a series for leading Indian platform, Hotstar. List Of Submissions To The 83rd Academy Awards For Best Foreign Language Film
This is a list of submissions to the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The deadline for all countries to send in their submissions was 1 October 2010. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2009, and 30 September 2010. Farrukh Jaffar (1933 – 15 October 2021) was an Indian actress and radio presenter in Bollywood. Having begun her career with Vividh Bharti in 1963, she made a transition into acting with a supporting role in the 1981 film '' Umrao Jaan''.
