Peel Football League
The Peel Football League (PFL) is a country football league based in the Peel region of Western Australia. The competition was formed in 1992 when teams from the Metropolitan Football League and Murray Districts Football League merged. There are currently seven clubs fielding a league reserves and colts team. The formation years The Metropolitan Football League (MFL) was a predecessor to the PFL and competed from 1988 to 1991 under the administration of the Sunday Football League. The six founding MFL teams in 1988 were Kwinana, Manning, Midland, Mosman Park, North Fremantle and Cockburn. In 1989, the MFL grew from 6 teams to 8 teams with the inclusion of Mundijong Centrals and Pinjarra. These two teams were previously competing in the Murray Districts Football League (along with Harvey Town, South Mandurah and Waroona). Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Daniel Haines
Daniel Haines (January 6, 1801 – January 26, 1877) was an American politician, jurist and lawyer. He was the 14th governor of New Jersey. Early life Haines was born in New York City, the nephew of Governor Aaron Ogden. He graduated from The College of New Jersey (now Princeton) in 1820, and went on to practice law in Newton and Hamburg. Joshua Schoenfeld (born 3 July 1997) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by the Gold Coast Football Club with their third selection and thirty-fourth overall in the 2015 national draft. Ben Newton (Australian Footballer)
Ben Newton (born 8 August 1992) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club and Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Newton was drafted by with pick 35 in the 2010 National Draft. He made his AFL debut against Greater Western Sydney in round 7 of the 2014 AFL season. At the end of the 2014 season, Newton left Port Adelaide citing that he wanted more opportunities at AFL level. He was subsequently recruited by Melbourne as a delisted free agent. Harley Bennell (born Harley Nannup; born 2 October 1992) is a former Australian rules footballer who last played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Nathan Wilson (born 7 January 1993) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Brock O'Brien
Brock O'Brien (born 30 May 1988) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. He plays as a midfielder or defender and was selected by the Fremantle Football Club with selection 52 in the 2006 AFL National Draft. O'Brien made his senior debut for Peel Thunder in the West Australian Football League in 2005 as a 16-year-old alongside his older brother, Rory O'Brien. Farren Ray (born 23 March 1986) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda Football Club and North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Hayden Ballantyne
Hayden Ballantyne (born 16 July 1987) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League. He was a 2014 All Australian and has previously won a Sandover Medal while playing with Peel Thunder. Early career Only 174 cm tall, Ballantyne started his career with Peel Thunder in the West Australian Football League in 2005 as a midfielder. In 2008, Ballantyne moved into the forward line with great success, kicking 75 goals to finish second in the Bernie Naylor Medal behind Subiaco's Brad Smith, and winning the Sandover Medal by 2 votes from Callum Chambers as the fairest and best player in the league. Daniel Wells (footballer)
Daniel Wells (born 3 February 1985) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Wells was selected by with the number two overall pick in the 2002 AFL draft and made his debut in 2003 playing 18 games and averaging 12 disposals per game. He rose to prominence in 2004 when, against Fremantle, he kicked the AFL Goal of the Year, jumping and taking the ball from ruck contest in the goal square and kicking the goal before he landed. Wells was selected in the Australian team for the 2005 International Rules Series but was unable to play due to injury.
