Pedro The Great
Pedro the Great (27 March 2010 – 9 August 2019) is an American-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He raced only as a two-year-old in 2012 when he won two of his five races including the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes. He was retired from racing in 2013 and became a breeding stallion in France. Background Pedro the Great is a bay horse bred in Kentucky by Anthony Oppenheimer's Hascombe Stud. In 2011 he was sent to Englnad and put up for the auction at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale where he was bought for 150,000 guineas by John Magnier of the Coolmore Stud. During his racing career he was trained by Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle. Like many Coolmore horses the details of his ownership changed from race to race: he sometimes raced in the colours of Michael Tabor while on other occasions he was described as being owned by a partnership of Tabor, Susan Magnier and Derrick Smith. Henrythenavigator
Henrythenavigator (foaled February 28, 2005) is an American-bred and Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He won the 2000 Guineas, the Irish 2,000 Guineas, the St. James's Palace Stakes and the Sussex Stakes in 2008. After he finished second in the Breeders' Cup Classic it was announced that Henrythenavigator would retire to Ashford Stud, Kentucky (Coolmore's farm in Kentucky), to stand at stud beginning the 2009 season. For the 2010 season, he shuttled between Ashford Stud and Coolmore's Australian farm; he now shuttles between Coolmore's Ireland and Australia farms. He is named after the Portuguese prince Henry the Navigator. Stud record Henrythenavigator attracted a number of top-class mares in his first season. Ballydoyle
Ballydoyle is a racehorse training facility located in County Tipperary in Ireland. It is a sister thoroughbred facility to Coolmore Stud, and both are owned by John Magnier, son in law to the racehorse trainer Vincent O'Brien. The current trainer at Ballydoyle is Aidan O'Brien, who succeeded Vincent O'Brien (no relation) in 1995. The current stable retained jockey is Ryan Moore. History After the 1951 Cheltenham Festival, Vincent O'Brien purchased and moved into Ballydoyle, then a farm ringed by mountains near the village of Rosegreen, County Tipperary. Vincent O'Brien trained such household names as Nijinsky, Ballymoss, Sir Ivor, Roberto, Alleged, The Minstrel, El Gran Senor and Sadler's Wells at Ballydoyle. The Rochestown Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Ireland open to thoroughbreds aged two years only. It is run at Naas over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,206 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late May or early June. The race was first run in 1993. Maiden Race
In horse racing a maiden race is an event for horses that have not won a race. Horses that have not won a race are referred to as maidens. Maiden horse races are held over a variety of distances and under conditions with eligibility based on the sex or age of the horse. Races may be handicaps, set weights, or weight for age. In many countries, maiden races are the lowest level of class and represent an entry point into a racing career. In countries such as the United States, maiden special weight races rank above claiming races, while maiden claiming races allow the horse to be claimed (bought) by another owner. Rivet (AKA Rivet Delight, foaled 3 April 2014、Chinese: 喜裝寶) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the leading European two-year-old colts of 2016 when he won three of his five races including the Champagne Stakes and the Racing Post Trophy. He failed to train on and was exported to Hong Kong where he had little success. Background Rivet is a bay colt with a small white star and three white socks bred in Ireland by Des Scott. During his racing career he has been owned by The Starship Partnership whose members include Lester Piggott. Power is a British-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He won the Coventry Stakes and the National Stakes as a two-year-old in 2011. In May 2012 he won the Irish 2000 Guineas. Background Power is a "big, powerful" bay horse with a white star. He was sired by the European Champion Sprinter Oasis Dream out of the mare Frappe. Frappe also produced the Ribblesdale Stakes winner Thakafaat and was a half sister of the 2000 Guineas winner Footstepsinthesand. Footstepsinthesand (foaled 15 February 2002) is a retired, undefeated Thoroughbred racehorse and active sire who was bred in the United Kingdom but trained during his racing career in Ireland. The Prestige Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run at Goodwood over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late August. History The event was established in 1974, and it was initially called the Globtik Stakes. It became known as the Waterford Candelabra Stakes in 1975. Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf
The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf is an American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses, run on a grass course at a distance of one mile. It is part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the ''de facto'' year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing. All Breeders' Cups to date have been conducted in the United States, with the exception of the 1996 event in Canada. The race was run for the first time in 2007 during the first day of the expanded Breeders' Cup at host track, Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey. Sussex Stakes
The Sussex Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Goodwood over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late July or early August. History The first version of the event, a 6-furlong race for two-year-olds, was established in 1841. It continued intermittently for thirty-seven years, but it was uncontested on twenty-five occasions including fourteen walkovers. The Sussex Stakes became a 1-mile race for three-year-olds in 1878. The previous version had been overshadowed by both the Goodwood Cup and the Stewards' Cup, but in its modified form it became the most prestigious race at Goodwood.
