Pedro Pidal, 1st Marquess Of Villaviciosa De Asturias
Pedro José Pidal y Bernaldo de Quirós, 1st Marquess of Villaviciosa de Asturias, MP (2 November 1870 – 17 November 1941) was a Spanish peer, politician, mountaineer, writer, famed hunter and Olympic medalist. A visionary in the field of conservationism, he engineered the creation of Picos de Europa National Park in 1918 and was the first person to reach the summit of Naranjo de Bulnes, in 1904. Pidal took second place in pigeon shooting at the 1900 Summer Olympics, an event now considered unofficial (the IOC has never decided which events were "Olympic" and which were not). The Most Excellent (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Excelentísimo Señor'' (male) or ''Excelentísima Señora'' (female), literally "Most Excellent Sir/Madam") is an honorific prefix that is traditionally applied to certain people in Spain and certain Spanish-speaking countries. Carlos Rein Segura, OLSM (18 July 1897 – 11 February 1992) was a Spanish politician who served as Minister of Agriculture during the Francoist regime, from 1945 to 1951. Early years He studied agricultural engineering and entered the administration, being framed by the National Corps of Agricultural Engineers of the Ministry of Finance. He carried out functions in the Board of Colonization and Interior Repopulation, serving in the agricultural colonies of the Galleon, in Cazalla de la Sierra and Cañamero. In the first town he was appointed mayor during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Later he held another political position, that of president of the Partial Committee of Charter and Unloading of the Port of Málaga. The Iberian lynx (''Lynx pardinus'') is a wild cat species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In the 20th century, the Iberian lynx population had declined because of overhunting, poaching, fragmentation of suitable habitats, and the population decline of its main prey species, the European rabbit (''Oryctolagus cuniculus''), caused by myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease. By the turn of the 21st century, the Iberian lynx was on the verge of extinction, as only 94 individuals survived in two isolated subpopulations in Andalusia in 2002. Conservation measures have been implemented since then, which included improving habitat, restocking of rabbits, translocating, reintroducing and monitoring Iberian lynxes.
