Pedro Girón Acuña Pacheco
Pedro Girón Acuña Pacheco (1423–1466), was Master of the Order of Calatrava (1445–1466), 1st Lord of Ureña and Osuna, and an important political figure at the court of Henry IV of Castile. He was the younger brother of Juan Pacheco and nephew of Alfonso Carrillo de Acuña, Archbishop of Toledo. In the trail of his brother, and a confidant of the young prince and later King Henry IV of Castile, he became one of the most powerful and rich persons in the Castilian court. At the age of 22 he became Master of the military Order of Calatrava, and received in 1448 the strategic town of Peñafiel, where he built the Peñafiel Castle. When Prince Henry became King in 1454, Pedro received several towns and titles including Lord of Osuna, which would become the powerful House of Osuna. Peñafiel Castle
Peñafiel Castle is located in Peñafiel, Valladolid Province, Spain. The castle is more than long and encloses an area about wide. Standing in the middle is a high three storey keep. Fernan Gonzalez began construction on the Peñafiel site in 947, as a frontier outpost in defense against the Arabs. A castle was built in 1013 by Sancho Garcia to protect the land. Several other members of the Spanish nobility added to the castle including Juan Manuel and Pedro Girón. Blanche I, Queen of Navarre gave birth to the Charles, Prince of Viana in the keep of Peñafiel in 1421. Pedro Téllez-Girón, 3rd Count Of Ureña
Pedro Téllez-Girón y Fernández de Velasco or Pedro Girón (died Seville, April 25, 1531), was a Spanish noble, 3rd Count of Ureña and a leader of the Revolt of the Comuneros. He was the son of Juan Téllez-Girón, 2nd Count of Ureña and Leonor de la Vega Velasco, daughter of Pedro Fernández de Velasco, 2nd Count of Haro. He married Mencía de Guzmán, daughter of Juan Alfonso Pérez de Guzmán, 3rd Duke of Medina Sidonia. When his brother-in-law Enrique Pérez de Guzmán, 4th Duke of Medina Sidonia, died in 1512 without issue, Pedro Girón unsuccessfully claimed the title of Medina Sidonia through his wife. Pedro stated that Alonso Pérez de Guzmán, son of the third Duke and his second wife, was an illegitimate child. Alfonso, Prince Of Asturias (1453–1468)
Alfonso the Innocent (17 November 14535 July 1468) was the figurehead of rebelling Castilian magnates against his half-brother Henry IV, who had recognized him as heir presumptive with the title of Prince of Asturias. Childhood Alfonso was the only surviving son of John II by his second wife, Isabella of Portugal. Alfonso's older sister, the future Isabella I of Castile, was also the product of this second marriage. After the death of his father, John II, Alfonso, his mother and sister were virtually exiled, his mother to Arevalo and the children to Segovia. When Alfonso was around seven years of age the two children were moved to Henry's court at Madrid and were placed in Queen Joan's household. The War of the Castilian Succession was the military conflict contested from 1475 to 1479 for the succession of the Crown of Castile fought between the supporters of Joanna 'la Beltraneja', reputed daughter of the late monarch Henry IV of Castile, and those of Henry's half-sister, Isabella, who was ultimately successful. The war had a marked international character, as Isabella was married to Ferdinand, heir apparent to the Crown of Aragon, while Joanna was strategically married to King Afonso V of Portugal, her uncle, after the suggestion of her supporters. On 5 June 1465, in a location around Ávila, a group of Castilian noblemen deposed of King Henry IV of Castile in effigy, and instead proclaimed his half-brother Prince Alfonso, better known as "Alfonso the Innocent", as king. This ceremony became known by its detractors as the farce of Ávila.
