Pedro García (baseball)
Pedro Modesto García (born April 17, 1950) is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, and Toronto Blue Jays. Career Milwaukee Brewers (1973-1976) Garcia signed as an amateur free agent with the Seattle Pilots in 1969, but did not appear with the franchise before it became the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970. With the departure of Ron Theobald, Garcia was named the Brewers' starting second baseman for the 1973 season, and made his Major League debut on April 6, going hitless in three at-bats against Dave McNally in a 10-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Garcia earned his first career hit the next day, a home run against the Orioles' Mike Cuellar in an extra inning 8-7 loss. American League Rookie Of The Year
In Major League Baseball, the Rookie of the Year Award is given annually to two outstanding rookie players, one each for the American League (AL) and National League (NL), as voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA). The award was established in 1940 by the Chicago chapter of the BBWAA, which selected an annual winner from 1940 through 1946. The award became national in 1947; Jackie Robinson, the Brooklyn Dodgers' second baseman, won the inaugural award. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. The Hawaii Islanders were a minor league baseball team based in Honolulu, Hawaii, that played in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League for 27 seasons from 1961 through 1987. Originally an affiliate of the Kansas City Athletics, the Islanders played their home games at Honolulu Stadium, Aloha Stadium and Les Murakami Stadium. Gary Lynn Sutherland (born September 27, 1944), nicknamed "Sudsy", is an American former professional baseball middle infielder. He played college baseball at the University of Southern California and later played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), from to . During Sutherland’s major league career, he played 717 games as a second baseman and 164 games as a shortstop. Sutherland compiled a .243 batting average, but became known for his finesse in turning the double play. Sutherland led all National League (NL) second basemen with 110 double plays turned during the 1969 season. Robin Yount
Robin R. Yount (; born September 16, 1955), nicknamed "the Kid", and "Rockin' Robin", is an American former professional baseball player. He spent his entire 20-year career in Major League Baseball as a shortstop and center fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers (1974–93). Yount was drafted in 1973 and advanced to the major leagues one year later at the age of 18. He won two American League Most Valuable Player awards. In 1982, he led the Brewers to a World Series appearance. Yount was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999 in his first year of eligibility.
