Pedro Gamarro
Pedro Gamarro (January 8, 1955 – May 7, 2019) was a Venezuelan amateur boxer. Gamarro represented his native country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. There, he won the silver medal in the welterweight division (– 67 kg) after having lost to Jochen Bachfeld of East Germany in the final. Gamarro's medal was the only one won by the South American nation in Montreal. A year earlier, Gamarro had won a bronze medal at the 1975 Pan American Games. In between, he also won a bronze medal at the 1983 Pan American Games held in his home country. Gamarro died in 2019 at the age of 64. ''World Boxing Association''. Welterweight
Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Etymology The first known instance of the term is from 1831, meaning "heavyweight horseman," later "boxer or wrestler of a certain weight" by 1896. This sense comes from earlier "welter" "heavyweight horseman or boxer" from 1804, possibly from "welt", meaning "to beat severely", from 15th century. Marijan Beneš
Marijan Beneš (11 June 1951 – 4 September 2018) was a Yugoslav Boxing, boxer from Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is considered one of the best boxers in Yugoslav history. After a brilliant amateur career, culminating in the gold medal in European Amateur Boxing Championships in Belgrade, he turned professional in 1977, and won the European Boxing Union title in the light welterweights in 1979. Next year he fought for the World Boxing Association, WBA World super welterweight title but lost to title holder Ayub Kalule on points. Beneš withdrew from the ring in 1983, after a severe eye injury. In 2020 he was named as the best Bosnians, Bosnian boxer in 20th century.
