Pedro Flores (composer)
Pedro Flores born (March 9, 1894 – July 14, 1979) was one of Puerto Rico's best known composers of ballads and boleros. Early Years Flores (birth name: Pedro Juan Flores Córdova) was one of twelve children born into a poor family in the town of Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Flores' father died when he was only nine years old, necessitating that he had to work from a young age. When Flores was sixteen years old, he took a special course at the University of Puerto Rico (Universidad de Puerto Rico) and received his teachers’ certificate. Flores then taught for five years and worked for one year at a sugar mill om the island of Vieques. In 1918, he served in a clerical position in the United States Army. Pedro Flores (born 14 January 1951) is a Mexican former professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 1982, holding the WBA light flyweight title in 1981. Professional career In November 1973, in Pedro's pro debut he upset the undefeated Ramon Novelo by T.K.O. in the seventh round. WBA Light Flyweight Championship On September 26, 1981, Flores won the WBA Light Flyweight title by upsetting an undefeated Yoko Gushiken with a twelfth round T.K.O. in Gushikawa, Okinawa, Japan. This bout was a rematch, as Gushiken had outpointed Flores in a prior world title bout. Pedro Flores García (Murcia, 1897 - Paris, 1967) was a painter of the Region of Murcia, Spain. Childhood and youth He was born in Murcia on February 5, 1897, in a humble family. During his childhood he studied at a Marist school and the Jesuit school, but at ten years old began working as an apprentice in a decorative paint shop. In 1908 he began attending classes at the Academy of Fine Arts at the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country and then continued in the Art's school. Later, he began working in a lithographic factory with Luis Garay, where he learned some photographic techniques. He used photographs taken near the orchards of Murcia as inspiration. He soon obtained several awards with his paintings in 1927 and obtained a great appreciation of criticism in the exhibition conducted by Ramón Gaya and Luis Garay in Galeries Dalmau Barcelona. Pedro Edralin Flores (26 April 1896 – 3 January 1964) was a Filipino businessman and yo-yo maker who has been credited with popularizing yo-yos in the United States. He patented an innovation to yo-yos that used a loop instead of a knot around the axle, allowing for new tricks such as the ability to "sleep." Early history Pedro Flores was born in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and came to the United States in 1915. He attended the High School of Commerce in San Francisco 1919-1920 and subsequently studied law at University of California, Berkeley and the Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. Flores dropped out of school and moved to Santa Barbara, California where he worked at odd jobs to make a living. While working as a bellboy, Flores read an article about a self-made millionaire who made his money by selling a ball attached to a rubber band.
