Pedro Eugenio Pelletier
General Pedro Eugenio Pelletier was a French-born Dominican military figure. He served in the Dominican War of Independence Biography In the Battle of March 30, 1844 in the city of Santiago, he had a prominent role after the Dominican governing board have called the general José María Imbert, who asked to be accompanied, among others by Pelletier, then Colonel and Chief of the main line. So he had his part in the battle, in which Dominican Republic emerged victorious. In April 1855 Pelletier and Gen. Joaquín Aybar were arrested, accused of high treason and sentenced to death, for conspiring against President Pedro Santana; they were pardoned by President Santana in May 1855. Dominican War Of Independence
The Dominican War of Independence made the Dominican Republic a sovereign state on February 27, 1844. Before the war, the island of Hispaniola had been united for 22 years when the newly independent nation, previously known as the Captaincy General of Santo Domingo, was unified with the Republic of Haiti in 1822. The criollo class within the country overthrew the Spanish crown in 1821 before unifying with Haiti a year later. After the struggles that were made by Dominican patriots to free the country from Haitian control, they had to withstand and fight against a series of incursions that served to consolidate their independence (1844–56). Haitian soldiers would make incessant attacks to try to gain back control of the nation, but these efforts were to no avail, as the Dominicans would go on to win every battle. Antonio Duvergé
Antonio Duvergé Duval (1807–April 11, 1855), a Dominican general of French origin and one of the most legendary military figures in the history of the Dominican Republic, served in the Dominican War of Independence. He was a hero and martyr who proclaimed the birth of the new Republic on February 28, 1844, in Bani and days later in Azua. Origins Antonio Duvergé Duval was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico to French-Dominican Joseph Duverger and Maria Duval. His grandfather Alexander was born Nantes. A member of De la Rochejacquelein family, he left France during the Drownings at Nantes for being a royalist. Alexander fought for the French against Haitian General Toussaint Louverture. Furcy Fondeur
Colonel Furcy Fondeur Lajeunesse (1814 – 22 November 1892) was a French-born Dominican Republic military man and politician. Born in France, his family moved to the Spanish Captaincy General of Santo Domingo around 1820. His father was Louis Fondeur and his mother was Marguerite LaJeunesse, Comtesse De La Juvenile; he had 5 siblings. He married Jacinta Castro and had 5 children, he was widowed and remarried to María Luisa Fernández Fernández (1837–1895) and had 10 children. On 14 September 1863, Fondeur signed the Act of the Independence of the Dominican Republic from Spain, and fought in the Dominican Restoration War as a colonel; he is considered a hero of the Battle of Santiago (1863). He was designated Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1867. Fondeur Lajeunesse was also president of the City Council of Santiago de los Caballeros. Pedro Santana y Familias, 1st Marquess of Las Carreras (June 29, 1801June 14, 1864) was a Dominican military commander and royalist politician who served as the president of the junta that had established the First Dominican Republic, a precursor to the position of the President of the Dominican Republic, and as the first President of the republic in the modern line of succession. A traditional royalist who was fond of the Monarchy of Spain and the Spanish Empire, he ruled as a governor-general, but effectively as an authoritarian dictator. During his life he enjoyed the title of " Libertador de la Patria." Santana was a lifelong supporter of the Dominican revolt against the Haitian occupation and a noted general during the Dominican War of Independence (1844–1856).
