Pedreña
Pedreña is a village in the municipality of Marina de Cudeyo, Cantabria, northern Spain. As of 2010, its population was 1,454. Although located from Santander by road, it lies on a peninsula only about across the bay from Santander, separated from land to the east by the mouth of the Miera River. Pedreña and other parts of Santander Bay can be reached by boats which leave from Santander at regular intervals. The most famous son of Pedreña is golfer Seve Ballesteros (1957–2011); the main avenue in the village is named after him. History Pedreña Cemetery is located in the ruins of the ancient parish church. The church was under the patronage of San Pedro de Ambojo. This name appears in several documents to refer to the current location of Pedreña. This medieval church is dated to the 14th or 15th century. Seve Ballesteros
Severiano Ballesteros Sota (; 9 April 1957 – 7 May 2011) was a Spanish professional golfer, a World No. 1 who was one of the sport's leading figures from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. A member of a gifted golfing family, he won 90 international tournaments in his career, including five major championships between 1979 and 1988: the Open Championship three times and the Masters Tournament twice. He gained attention in the golfing world in 1976, when at the age of 19, he finished second at The Open. He played a leading role in the re-emergence of European golf, helping the European Ryder Cup team to five wins both as a player and captain. Ballesteros won a record 50 European Tour titles. Ramón Sota
Ramón Sota Ocejo (23 April 1938 – 28 August 2012) was a Spanish professional golfer. Sota was born in Pedreña, Cantabria. He won many professional tournaments around the world including some of the major national opens around Europe that formed the basis of the European Tour when it was formed in 1972. Those wins included his own national open, three Portuguese Opens and the French Open. He recorded several victories farther afield, including winning the Brazil Open in 1965. He was also Spanish professional champion four times. In 1965, Sota finished 6th at the U.S. Masters, which at the time was the best performance in the tournament by any European. He finished 10th on the European Order of Merit in 1971, the year prior to the official start of the new European Tour. He only competed on the tour for one season, in 1972. An iron is a type of club used in the sport of golf to propel the ball towards the hole. Boat racing is a sport in which boats, or other types of watercraft, race on water.
