Alexander Peddie
Alexander Peddie FRSE FRCPE LLD (3 June 1810 – 19 January 1907) was a Scottish physician and author. He was president of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 1877 until 1879, and was co-founder of Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. Life He was the son of James Peddie, born in Edinburgh. He attended the school of William Lennie and Edinburgh High School. After four years as a bank clerk, he became an apprentice to James Syme. He obtained an M.D. degree from University of Edinburgh in 1835. Peddie died at his home at 15 Rutland Street, in the West End of Edinburgh, on 19 January 1907.Edinburgh Post Office Directory 1906 He is buried with his parents in Warriston Cemetery in northern Edinburgh. Timm Peddie is a retired professional track and road bicycle racer from the United States. He won the collegiate national track championships (1991) and the U.S. Olympic Road Trials (1992). He represented the United States in the Olympic Games Road Race, in Barcelona, Spain and competed from 1991 through 1996, winning over 20 professional and international races. He was selected by his peers to the United States Olympic Committee ( USOC), in 1996, where he served for four years (1996-2000). Peddie (Xhosa: ''iNgqushwa)'' is a town in the Ngqushwa Local Municipality within the Amathole District Municipality in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The town is situated 55 km south-west of Qonce and 67 km east of Makhanda. It developed from a frontier post established in 1835 and named Fort Peddie, and became a municipality in 1905. William Peddie
250px, William Peddie (ca 1910) William Peddie FRSE LLD (31 May 1861 – 2 June 1946) was a Scottish physicist and applied mathematician, known for his research on colour vision and molecular magnetism. Life He was born in Papa Westray in Orkney on 31 May 1861 the son of Rev John Peddie and his wife, Marion Beashe. He was educated at Kirkwall Grammar School. He studied Mathematics and Physics at the University of Edinburgh graduating BSc in 2022 and gaining a doctorate (DSc) in 1888. He had been assisting in lectures in Natural Philosophy (Physics) since 1883 and became a formal lecturer in 1892. In 1907 he received a professorship at University College, Dundee. He wrote numerous scientific papers and several books. He annotated the 5th edition of Tait's ''Properties of Matter''. In 1887 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Thomas Baldwin Peddie
Thomas Baldwin Peddie (February 11, 1808 – February 16, 1889) was an American Republican politician who represented in the United States House of Representatives from 1877 to 1879. Earlier he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from 1864 to 1865 and the Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, from 1866 to 1869. Birth He was born on February 11, 1808, in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was a Baptist exhorter, working at trunk-making during the week and preaching on Sundays. The elder Peddie died in 1832, leaving his wife and six children in moderate financial circumstances and whose support then depended mainly upon Thomas. Seeing little chance in Scotland of earning a living for so many dependent ones, and hearing of America as the land of opportunity, he emigrated in 1833; after studying the advantages offered by several towns, he concluded to make Newark, New Jersey, his home. Richard A. Peddie (born January 1947) is a Canadian businessman. He is the former president and CEO of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment. Career Peddie was president and CEO of SkyDome from August 1989 to 1994. In 1993, he took a leave of absence for six months to join Larry Tanenbaum's Palestra Group, which included Labatt, in their pursuit of an expansion National Basketball Association team for Toronto, which was ultimately awarded to a competing group and became the Toronto Raptors. While employed by the SkyDome, he was twice offered the head job of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League, who played at the SkyDome. John Ronald Peddie
Sir John Ronald Peddie FRSE FEIS LLD DLitt (1887–1979) was a 20th-century Scottish educational administrator and author. He was both Secretary and Treasurer of the Carnegie Trust for Scotland. Life He was born on 5 January 1887 the son of Richard Dawes Peddie of Grangemouth. He was educated at Grangemouth High School. He then studied at Glasgow University graduating MA in 1909 and immediately beginning lecturing at the university. In the First World War he served at the rank of adjutant with Glasgow University's Officer Training Corps, receiving a military MBE for his work. After the war he was promoted to senior lecturer. 1925 he moved to Teacher Training, as advisor on arts and in 1941 he moved to the Carnegie Trust. In 1937 he was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by King George VI. In 1942 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
