The Peasants and Workers Party of India is a Marxist political party in Maharashtra, India. The party was founded on 13.06.1948, having its roots from the pre-Independence period and has around 1,00,000 members. The influence of the party is largely limited to three districts. The party was founded in Maharashtra by Keshavrao Jedhe of Pune, Shankarrao More, Bhausaheb Raut of Mumbai, Nana Patil of Satara, Tulshidas Jadhav of Solapur, Dajiba Desai of Belgaum, Madhavrao Bagal of Kolhapur, P K Bhapkar and Datta Deshmukh of Ahmednagar, Vithalrao Hande and others. Member of legislative council of Maharashtra, Mr. Jayant Prabhakar Patil, is general secretary of the party. The party has 1 MLA and 2 MLCs. The party has a strong hold on Raigad District as well as party has Zilla Parishad members in 6 districts of Maharashtra, namely Raigad, Solapur, Nashik, Nagpur, Nanded and Parabhani. Jayant Prabhakar Patil is an Indian politician. He is currently the General Secretary of Peasants and Workers Party of India and a Member of the Legislative Council of Maharashtra. He is Chairman of Raigad District Central Co-operative Bank. Political career After the death of his father he became leader of his party. The 2004 Maharashtra Assembly Election was a major setback for his party, as two of the Major leaders lost their seats from Alibag and Pen Constituency. In 2009 they regained those constituency seats, but lost Panvel and also lost a number of votes from district. In the 2014 election they only won two seats in Raigad. Raigad District
Raigad district (Marathi pronunciation: Help:IPA/Marathi, [ɾaːjɡəɖ]), previously Colaba fort, Colaba district, is a district in the Konkan division of Maharashtra, India. The district was renamed to Raigad fort, Raigad after the fort that was the first capital of the former Maratha Empire, which in turn was renamed from its earlier name - Rairi. The fort is located in the interior regions of the district, in dense forests on a west-facing spur of the Western Ghats of Sahyadri Range. Ahmednagar
Ahmednagar (), is a city located in the Ahmednagar district in the state of Maharashtra, India, about 120 km northeast of Pune and 114 km from Aurangabad. Ahmednagar takes its name from Ahmad Nizam Shah I, who founded the town in 1494 on the site of a battlefield where he won a battle against superior Bahamani forces. Madhavrao Khanderao Bagal (28 May 1895 – 6 March 1986), also called Bhai Madhavrao Bagal, was a noted writer, artist, journalist, social reformer, political activist, orator and freedom fighter from Kolhapur. Early life He was born on 28 May 1895 in Kolhapur to Khanderao Bagal. His father Khanderao Bagal was a renowned pleader, tehsildar and also a social reformer.
