Peak Charles National Park
Peak Charles National Park is a national park in Western Australia, east of Perth and north west of Esperance. The park is named for one of the main features, Peak Charles, which is an ancient granite peak with an elevation of that dominates the park along with its neighbour Peak Eleanora. Both afford excellent views over the park, which is primarily composed of dry sand plain heaths and salt lake systems. It is located within the IBRA sub region of the Eastern Mallee and has a number of rare plants within its boundaries including ''Gastrolobium acrocaroli''. No entry fee applies to enter the park but there are few facilities available to tourists. A car park, campground and toilets are available. A looped walk trail to a lookout at the top of Peak Charles is also available which requires rock scrambling. Esperance, Western Australia
Esperance is a town in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. The urban population of Esperance was 12,145 at June 2018. Its major industries are tourism, agriculture, and fishing. IBRA
The Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA) is a biogeographic regionalisation of Australia developed by the Australian government's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population, and Communities. It was developed for use as a planning tool, for example for the establishment of a national reserve system. The first version of IBRA was developed in 1993–94 and published in 1995. Within the broadest scale, Australia is a major part of the Australasia biogeographic realm, as developed by the World Wide Fund for Nature. Eastern Mallee
Eastern Mallee is an Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA) subregion in southern Western Australia. Geography Eastern Mallee is roughly defined as the eastern half of the Mallee biogeographic region. It has an area of around 46,000 square kilometres, and is very sparsely populated. The only towns occur along the road from Esperance to Norseman. The largest and best known town is Salmon Gums; others include Scaddan, Grass Patch, Red Lake and Dowak, Western Australia. Gastrolobium Acrocaroli
''Gastrolobium acrocaroli'' is an erect open shrub that is endemic to an isolated location in the south-west of Western Australia. It is a member of the family Fabaceae, grows to 2.7 metres high and produces orange yellow pea-flowers in either April or September to November. Taxonomy The species was first formally described in 2002 botanists by Gregory Chandler and Michael Crisp and the description was published in ''Australian Systematic Botany''. The specific epithet (''acrocaroli'') is derived from the Ancient Greek word ''akron'' meaning "top", "summit" or "peak" and ''carolus'' meaning "Charles", referring to Peak Charles in the Peak Charles National Park where this species is found.
