Peacock Suit is a song by English singer-songwriter Paul Weller that was released on 5 August 1996 as the first single from his fourth solo album Heavy Soul. It reached 5 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1996, making it the highest-charting single of his solo career. Uncut magazine praised the song as a "snarling update of The Who's "I'm The Face"", rating it 25th in its list of Weller's 30 best songs. Weller wrote the song in response to a newspaper article which criticised the Mod clothing movement. Paul Weller
Paul John Weller (born John William Weller; 25 May 1958) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Weller achieved fame with the punk rock/ new wave/mod revival band the Jam (1972–1982). He had further success with the blue-eyed soul music of the Style Council (1983–1989), before establishing himself as a solo artist with his eponymous 1992 album. Despite widespread critical recognition as a singer, lyricist, and guitarist, Weller has remained a national, rather than international, star and much of his songwriting is rooted in English society. Many of his songs with the Jam had lyrics about working class life. He was the principal figure of the 1970s and 1980s mod revival, often referred to as "The Modfather", and an influence on Britpop bands such as Oasis. "I Shall Be Released" is a 1967 song written by Bob Dylan. Dylan recorded two primary versions. The first recording was made in collaboration with the Band during the Basement Tapes sessions in 1967, and released on '' The Bootleg Series Volumes 1–3'' in 1991. ''Heavy Soul'' is the fourth album by English singer-songwriter Paul Weller, originally released on 23 June 1997 (5 August in the USA). The album received largely favourable reviews. It sold enough to be the number one album on its week of release, however it was denied this position on a technicality – five images within the album's booklet were replaced with postcards of the images in the Special Edition release, meaning that sales of the Special Edition did not count towards the album's sales as they were defined as free gifts. The title was lifted from a 1961 Ike Quebec album of the same name.
