The Peace Cup was an invitational pre-season friendly football tournament for club teams which was held every two years by the Sunmoon Peace Football Foundation. It was usually contested by eight clubs from several continents, though 12 teams participated in 2009. 2009 Peace Cup
The 2009 Peace Cup Andalucia was an invitational friendly football tournament. It was the fourth edition of Peace Cup and was held in Spain from 24 July to 2 August in the cities of Madrid, Seville, Málaga, Jerez and Huelva. It was the first time that the tournament has been hosted by a nation other than South Korea. The winners of the tournament were Aston Villa, who defeated Juventus in the final. They succeeded Olympique Lyonnais, who were the previous holders of the tournament through winning the 2007 edition. It was one of seven 2009 pre-season friendly tournaments, the others being the Emirates Cup, the Barclays Asia Trophy, the World Football Challenge, the Wembley Cup, the Amsterdam Tournament and the Audi Cup. Lee Young-pyo ( ko, 이영표; ; born 23 April 1977) is a retired South Korean professional footballer who played as a right-footed left back. Lee was recognized for his speed and dribbling skills. His former manager Martin Jol once called him "the best left back in Holland". Prior to playing for PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham Hotspur, Lee started his professional career at FC Seoul, then known as Anyang LG Cheetahs in the Korean K League and then spent two years with PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands, earning high acclaim from PSV Coach Guus Hiddink, who had previously coached Lee and South Korea during the 2002 World Cup. Ahmed Hossam Hussein Abdelhamid Wasfi ( ar, أحمد حسام حسين عبد الحميد وصفي; born 23 February 1983), publicly known as Mido ( ar, ميدو), is an Egyptian football manager and former player who played as a striker. Mido started his career with Zamalek in Egypt in 1999. He left the club for Gent of Belgium in 2000, where he won the Belgian Ebony Shoe. This led to a move to Dutch side Ajax in 2001, from where he joined Celta Vigo on loan in 2003. His next destination was Marseille in France and he left them for Italian side Roma in 2004. He joined English side Tottenham Hotspur on an 18-month loan in 2005 and eventually joined the club permanently in 2006. 2012 Peace Cup
The 2012 Peace Cup was an invitational friendly football tournament that was held from July 19 to July 22. It was the fifth Peace Cup and was held in Suwon, South Korea. Format The 2012 tournament featured some major changes compared to previous tournaments. The number of teams participating was reduced from eight to four. Therefore, the teams would immediately be playing one another in sudden death mode. The draws for these pairings were decided via polls on the official website. Due to these changes, the tournament would last four days, rather than ten as previous tournaments did. All matches were played in the Suwon World Cup Stadium. As always, the host of the tournament was South Korean club Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. The other teams were partly chosen because of the South Korean football players they have in their squads.
