Paxman VP185
The Paxman VP185 is an engine manufactured by Paxman, Colchester. It is used in marine and railway applications and available as both a V12 and V18. History The VP185 was launched in May 1993 as a successor to the Paxman Valenta. It differed from the Valenta with a 90-degree cylinder bank angle, rather than a 60-degree vee to reduce its height, unit pump injectors eliminating two camshafts, side by side connecting rods to reduce manufacturing costs, higher firing pressures; increased power output, improved fuel consumption and emissions performance. Beginning in 1994, a small number of British Rail Class 43 power cars were fitted with Paxman VP185 engines, however the majority retained Valentas into the 21st century. With the Class 43s in need of new engines in the mid-2000s, most operators opted for the MTU engines. Brush Traction is a manufacturer and maintainer of railway locomotives in Loughborough, England. It is a subsidiary of Wabtec. History Hughes's Locomotive & Tramway Engine Works Henry Hughes had been operating at the Falcon Works since the 1850s, producing items such as brass and iron cast parts for portable engines and thrashing machines. In 1860 Henry Hughes announced he had entered into a partnership with William March who had extensive experience in the timber trade, and this would be added to the existing business of "engineers and manufacturers of railway plant", with the business to be called Hughes and March. The New South Wales ''XPT'' (short for eXpress Passenger Train) is a class of diesel-powered passenger trains built by Comeng and ABB Transportation. Abellio East Midlands Limited, trading as East Midlands Railway (EMR), is a train operating company in England, owned by Abellio, and is the current operator of the East Midlands franchise.
