Paxman Musical Instruments
Paxman Musical Instruments Ltd is a British manufacturer of horns. Paxman is the instrument of choice of a number of leading British players, including Michael Thompson. Paxman was established at the turn of the twentieth century by Harry Paxman, but did not start production of horns until 1945, when no more than twelve instruments a year were made. Robert Paxman was honoured with an Order of the British Empire for his services to music. 1950 saw the arrival in England of Richard Merewether, a professional horn player whose career had started with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. As his career in this country progressed, he found himself specialising more and more in the high register of the instrument. He had been working on ideas of horn design for a number of years and had researched areas of physics which he thought to be fundamental to the successful design and manufacture of such instruments. The company was located in Enfield, Middlesex, United Kingdom, History The company was founded in 1980 as Geoff's Records by chairman Geoff Young. The company expanded in 2002 by acquiring competitors and became the UK's leading wholesaler and worldwide distributor of CDs, cassettes, computer games, videos and DVDs. They also handled board games and toys. On 4 June 2007, the company was placed into administration. Paxman is a major British brand of diesel engines. Ownership has changed on a number of occasions since the company's formation in 1865, and now the brand is part of MAN Diesel & Turbo. At its peak, the Paxman works covered and employed over 2,000 people. Jeremy Paxman
Jeremy Dickson Paxman (born 11 May 1950) is an English broadcaster, journalist, author, and television presenter. Born in Leeds, Paxman was educated at Malvern College and St Catharine's College, Cambridge, where he edited the undergraduate newspaper '' Varsity''. At Cambridge, he was a member of a Labour Party club and described himself as a socialist, although in later life described himself as a one-nation conservative. He joined the BBC in 1972, initially at BBC Radio Brighton, although he relocated to London in 1977. In coming years, he worked on ''Tonight'' and '' Panorama'' before becoming a newsreader for the ''BBC Six O'Clock News'' and later a presenter on '' Breakfast Time''. Giles Paxman
Timothy Giles Paxman CMG LVO (born 15 November 1951) is a British diplomat who was Ambassador to Mexico between 2005 and 2009 and then Ambassador to Spain between 2009 and 2013. Career Paxman became Ambassador to Spain on 19 October 2009. He was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 2013 New Year Honours "for services to UK interests in Spain and Mexico." Mike Paxman
Mike Paxman (born 19 December 1953) is an English multi-instrumentalist and record producer, best known for his work with Judie Tzuke, Nick Kamen, Uriah Heep and Status Quo and Asia. Paxman grew up in Wiltshire, England and went to Bishop Wordsworth's School in Salisbury. During the late 1970s, he played drums in the Salisbury-based contemporary jazz quartet Sphere, along with saxophonist Andy Sheppard, pianist Geoff Williams, and double bassist Peter Maxfield (all ex-B.W.S.). He played guitar, in the studio and on tour, and wrote with singer-songwriter Judie Tzuke from the late 1970s. He co-wrote Tzuke's single " Stay with Me till Dawn" and her first album ''Welcome to the Cruise'', then went on to write and produce a further twelve albums with her. Paxman continued working in the studio with Tzuke through to the late 1990s. Stephen Paxman (born 4 December 1970) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club and the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Fitzroy career (1991–1996) Paxman began his career with the Fitzroy Football Club in 1991, he went on to play 102 games for the club before Fitzroy's AFL operations were taken over by the Brisbane Bears to form the Brisbane Lions.
