Paweł Horodecki
Paweł Horodecki (born in 1971) is a Polish professor of physics at the Gdańsk University of Technology working in the field of quantum information theory. He is best known for introducing (together with his father Ryszard Horodecki and brother Michał Horodecki) the Peres-Horodecki criterion for testing whether a quantum state is entangled. Moreover, Paweł Horodecki demonstrated that there exist states which are entangled whereas no pure entangled states can be obtained from them by means of local operations and classical communication (LOCC). Such states are called bound entangled states. He also showed that even bound entanglement (when used in conjunction with a single pair of free entangled particles) can lead to quantum teleportation with a fidelity impossible to achieve with only separable states. Ryszard Horodecki
Ryszard Horodecki (born 30 September 1943) is a Polish physicist and a professor of University of Gdańsk. He contributed largely to the field of quantum informatics. In his most widely cited paper, 'Separability of Mixed States: Necessary and Sufficient Conditions' written together with his sons, Michał and Paweł, he proposed the idea currently known as the Peres-Horodecki criterion. With over 12,000 citations, he is considered to be one of the leading Polish physicists . Career He graduated from Department of Electronics, University of Gdańsk. Horodecki received his Ph.D. from Gdańsk University of Technology in 1976. Twenty-one years later, in 1997 he obtained his habilitation from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Michał Horodecki
Michał Horodecki (born 1973) is a Polish physicist at the University of Gdańsk working in the field of quantum information theory, notable for his work on entanglement theory. He co-discovered the Peres-Horodecki criterion for testing whether a state is entangled, and used it to find bound entanglement together with his brother Paweł Horodecki and father Ryszard Horodecki. LOCC, or local operations and classical communication, is a method in quantum information theory where a local (product) operation is performed on part of the system, and where the result of that operation is "communicated" classically to another part where usually another local operation is performed conditioned on the information received. Bound Entanglement
Bound entanglement is a weak form of quantum entanglement, from which no singlets can be distilled with local operations and classical communication (LOCC). Bound entanglement was discovered by M. Horodecki, P. Horodecki, and R. Horodecki. Bipartite entangled states that have a non-negative partial transpose are all bound-entangled. Moreover, a particular quantum state for 2x4 systems has been presented. Such states are not detected by the Peres-Horodecki criterion as entangled, thus other entanglement criteria are needed for their detection. There are a number of examples for such states.
