Paulina D. Jenkins
Paulina (Paula) D. Jenkins – active from the 1970s – is a British zoologist, specialising in mammals and employed as curator at the Natural History Museum, London. Jenkins has published research in a large number of papers, especially on smaller mammals such as shrews and bats. Her honours include the specific epithet derived from her first name for a species of rock rat found in Laos, '' Saxatilomys paulinae'', prompting the invention of a common name "Paulina's rock rat". The Natural History Museum in London is a museum that exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history. It is one of three major museums on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, the others being the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Saxatilomys Paulinae
''Saxatilomys paulinae'' is a species of murid rodent native to central Laos and Vietnam, separated to a monotypic genus ''Saxatilomys''. It was first discovered in the Khammouan Limestone National Biodiversity Conservation Area in Khammouan Province, Laos, and also been found in the Vietnamese province of Quang Bình. It is the only known species in the genus ''Saxatilomys''. The genus name is derived from the Latin ''saxatilis'', meaning "among the rocks" and the Greek ''mys'', meaning mouse or rat. Description It resembles, and is likely closely related to, species in the genera ''Niviventer'' and '' Chiromyscus''. ''Saxatilomys'' is distinguished from these and other Indomalayan genera by "semispinous dark gray upperparts, dark frosted gray underparts, large, extremely bulbous footpads, and a combination of derived and primitive cranial and dental traits". ''Microgale'' is a genus of mammal in the family Tenrecidae. There are 21 living species on the island of Madagascar and one extinct species known from a fossil. Some species have been discovered in the last twenty years. On the basis of molecular data indicating that Talazac's shrew tenrec and Dobson's shrew tenrec form a sister group to the rest of ''Microgale'', these two species were transferred from ''Microgale'' to ''Nesogale'' in 2016. ''Nesogale'' and ''Microgale'' are estimated to have diverged about 19 million years ago, during the Early Miocene. The web-footed tenrec, ''M. mergulus'', the only semiaquatic member of the genus, was formerly placed in the monotypic genus ''Limnogale'', but was moved in 2016 on the basis of sequence data showing it to be deeply nested within ''Microgale''.
