Paula Hawks
Paula Hawks (born September 11, 1975) is an American politician and a former Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives representing District 9 from January 11, 2013 to January 10, 2017. Hawks grew up on a farm near Flandreau, South Dakota. Hawks is a bank training specialist and a former high school science teacher. She has three children with her husband, Steve. The South Dakota Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of South Dakota. History 1914 was a milestone for the Democrats when they won South Dakota's first U.S. Senate election by popular vote with their first statewide elected official, Edwin S. Johnson. This was their first success since William Jennings Bryan successfully campaigned (a novelty at the time) for the state's electoral votes in 1896 with help from an agrarian crisis. Kristi Lynn Noem (; née Arnold; born November 30, 1971) is an American politician serving as the 33rd governor of South Dakota since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, she was the U.S. representative for from 2011 to 2019 and a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives for the 6th district from 2007 to 2011. Noem was elected governor in 2018 and is South Dakota's first female governor. During the 2018 election, she was endorsed by then-president Donald Trump.
