Paul W. Ruse Jr.
Paul W. Ruse Jr. (born September 13, 1943) was a Vermont banker and public official. He is notable for having served three terms as Vermont State Treasurer from 1989 to 1995. Biography Paul William Ruse Jr. was born in Springfield, Vermont on September 13, 1943. He was educated in Springfield, and graduated from Springfield High School in 1961. Ruse served in the United States Coast Guard from 1961 to 1965. Ruse subsequently returned to Vermont and started a career in banking and finance as a manager trainee with Vermont National Bank. He became assistant manager of the Wilmington branch in 1969. In 1970 Ruse became treasurer of the town of Springfield. He served until 1984, when he became the Springfield town manager and director of finance. In 1987, incumbent Vermont State Treasurer Emory A. Edward S. Flanagan (December 18, 1950 – November 3, 2017), commonly known as Ed Flanagan, was an American politician from Vermont. He served as Vermont State Auditor from 1993 to 2001 and as a State Senator from 2005 to 2011. Early life Flanagan was born in Washington, DC, the son of Bernard Lawrence Flanagan (1919-1970) and Margaret (Sawyer) Flanagan. When Flanagan was born, his father was employed on the staff of U.S. Senator George Aiken. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in history and political science in 1973, and earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1976. USCGC ''Escanaba'' (WHEC-64) was an high endurance cutter built for World War II service with the United States Coast Guard. The war ended before the ship was completed and consequently she never saw wartime service. ''Escanaba'' was built by Western Pipe & Steel at the company's San Pedro shipyard.
