Paul Simpson (footballer)
Paul David Simpson (born 26 July 1966) is an English former professional footballer who is currently manager of Carlisle United. He has been a coach and manager at several English clubs and was manager of the England team that won the FIFA Under-20s World Cup in South Korea in 2017. Playing career Manchester City Simpson began his playing career as a schoolboy at Manchester City in the early 1980s. He made his senior debut aged 16, on 2 October 1982 in a 3–2 win against Coventry City. However, after the club were relegated and new manager Billy McNeill arrived, Simpson, along with John Beresford, was briefly loaned out to Irish club Finn Harps to gain more experience. He scored 3 goals in 9 total appearances at Finn Park. He returned during the final stages of 1984–85 campaign and enjoyed a run of games as he scored 6 times in just 10 appearances as City won promotion from the Second Division. Paul Simpson is an English musician, vocalist, lyricist and writer from Liverpool, England, best known for his work with the Wild Swans and Care. Musically, his contributions have crossed the genres of synth-pop, post-punk, neo-psychedelia, new wave and ambient. Paul Hardrock Simpson
Paul James "Hardrock" Simpson, Sr. (September 2, 1904 – July 3, 1978) ran ultra distances and extreme races beginning in the late 1920s and continuing into the 1950s. Simpson was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Burlington, North Carolina. Simpson made a name for himself by winning a long-distance race against a horse, and went on to compete in numerous distance races as long as across the continent. The horse died as a result of the race. Simpson was a 1931 graduate of Elon University. In 1928, Simpson competed in the Trans-American Footrace from Los Angeles to New York City. Almost two hundred people began the race, but only fifty-five reached the finish line; Simpson was among them, placing 36th. His participation was documented in a 2002 ITVS documentary, ''The Great American Footrace''. In a second transcontinental race, Simpson finished 5th amongst nineteen finishers.
