Paul Shelley (politician)
Paul J. Shelley (born July 11, 1959) is a former political figure in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He represented Baie Verte-Springdale in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1993 to 2007 as a Progressive Conservative. He was born in Baie Verte, the son of William Shelley, and was educated at Memorial University Memorial University of Newfoundland, also known as Memorial University or MUN (), is a public university in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, based in St. John's, with satellite campuses in Corner Brook, elsewhere in Newfoundland and .... Shelley worked in construction from 1977 to 1981, was technical director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association from 1986 to 1987 and taught school in Baie Verte from 1987 to 1989. Baie Verte-Green Bay (formerly Baie Verte-Springdale) is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011 it has 8,067 eligible voters. The district was redistributed in 2015. The Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a provincial political party in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The party was founded in 1949 and most recently formed the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador from the 2003 general election until the 2015 general election. Baie Verte, Newfoundland And Labrador
Baie Verte ( 2021 Population 1,311) is a town located on the north coast of the island portion of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on the Baie Verte Peninsula. The French named the area for its greenness, "green bay." Geography Baie Verte is one of 42 communities that make up the Emerald Zone which is located in the North Central portion of Newfoundland. Baie Verte dates to the late 19th century, but remained a small village until the discovery of asbestos and other ore bodies of copper, lead, zinc and gold in the mid-1950s when the town underwent major expansion. Bowering Brother's steamers called in the area in the 1950s to transport the ore found here. It became a town in 1968.
