Paul Resika
Paul Resika (born 1928) is an American painter born and raised in New York City. He is a former student of Hans Hofmann. Resika began exhibiting his paintings in New York City in the 1940s. He has had several dozen one-man exhibitions in galleries and museums, and his works have been included in hundreds of group exhibitions since the late 1940s until the present. He chaired the Parsons School of Design MFA program from 1978 to 1990. He is a member of the National Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Whitney Museum Of American Art
The Whitney Museum of American Art, known informally as "The Whitney", is an art museum in the Meatpacking District and West Village neighborhoods of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded in 1930 by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875–1942), a wealthy and prominent American socialite, sculptor, and art patron after whom it is named. The Whitney focuses on 20th- and 21st-century American art. An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating an art. ''Modern Painters'' (1843–1860) is a five-volume work by the Victorian art critic, John Ruskin, begun when he was 24 years old based on material collected in Switzerland in 1842. Ruskin argues that recent painters emerging from the tradition of the picturesque are superior in the art of landscape to the old masters. The book was primarily written as a defense of the later work of J. M. W. Turner. Ruskin used the book to argue that art should devote itself to the accurate documentation of nature. In Ruskin's view, Turner had developed from early detailed documentation of nature to a later more profound insight into natural forces and atmospheric effects.
