Paul Neumann (Attorney General)
Paul Neumann (1839 – July 2, 1901) was a lawyer, politician, and diplomat in California and the Kingdom of Hawaii. Background Born and educated in Prussia, Neumann and his twin brother Edward relocated to California in 1854. The brothers worked in the goldmines, where Paul broke his leg. Eventually, Edward relocated to New Orleans and Paul moved to San Francisco. He became a lawyer in California around 1864, and was elected to represent San Francisco for three terms in the California State Senate. Hawaii He worked for fellow-German American Claus Spreckels (1828–1908), who maintained a monopoly of the refining of sugar from Hawaii in California. Neuman met Hawaiian royalty when they would come to California to be entertained by Spreckels. Neumann was the Republican Party of California's candidate for the United States House of Representatives in November 1882 for the San Francisco district. Paul Neumann (basketball)
Paul R. Neumann (born January 30, 1938) is an American retired basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early career A guard, Neumann attended Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, California and played college basketball for Stanford University. NBA career He was selected in the 4th round of the 1959 NBA draft by the Syracuse Nationals. He played two seasons with the Nationals, and remained with the team as it moved to Philadelphia and was renamed the Philadelphia 76ers. In 1965, he was traded at mid-season along with Connie Dierking and Lee Shaffer to the San Francisco Warriors for Wilt Chamberlain, a trade that is frequently cited as an example of a star player (in this case, Chamberlain) being traded for far less than he is worth. He played two more full seasons with the Warriors before retiring in 1967. Paul Neumann (13 June 1875 in Vienna – 9 February 1932) was an Austrian swimmer and physician, who competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens and became the first ever Austrian gold medalist. Biography Neumann was Jewish, and born in Vienna. Neumann was first noticed for his swimming when in 1892 he won the Austrian National River Championship, two years later he won the 500 metres at the Austrian Championships. In 1896 Neumann travelled to Athens and competed in 1896 Summer Olympics, all three swimming events were on the same day, so with Alfréd Hajós, from Hungary withdrawing from the 500 metre freestyle race because he needed time to recover after winning the 100 metres, there were only three competitors for the 500 metres, which Neumann won in a time of 8:12.6 minutes nearly two minutes faster than his rivals. Neumann also entered the 1200 metre freestyle which was straight after his victory which is why he didn't finish the race. He immigrated to the U.S. after ...
